Some games here are more DRM-free than others. Just sayin'

EDIT: So that i don't sound 100% negative, i will say that the majority of games on gog being drm-free is STILL the reason i have not quit pc gaming altogether.

I concur with OP, I hope 2024 is a profitable one for this store.

Of course there are things that could be done better, but we need GOG to be a success. There are so many games that would not have a DRM-free build anywhere if not for GOG. While there are alternative storefronts, GOG is unique in how it punches above its weight to bring in AA and AAA games free from DRM.

And thanks to YOU, random citizen!

.

(And if you don't catch my sarcastic reference, you really need to go watch the movie Megamind right now. And, yes, I know the actual line is "And I love YOU, random citizen.")

"LaaaAAAAaammMMMMEEe!"
Thanks for thanking! While some big companies develop new ways to "secure" and "protect" their games, GOG chose a different approach. I hope that 2024 will be a good year for GOG :)

I agree with this "thanks", and add my own: thank you, GOG!
Thanks, GOG.

Without you guys, I would have given up PC gaming 10 years ago. And as the PS5 'Slim' isn't even more energy efficient than the vanilla version, I guess the PC is all I have right now.

So make 2024 a good one!
Definitely giving thanks as more corporations are moving toward subscription and games as a service models now to ensure we dont own anything.

I honestly find it both sad and funny that reddit users are up in arms with games as a service (Gamepass) and are saying “if you dont own the game despite paying, then pirating is not stealing,” nevermind the fact that software licenses are a thing and you dont exactly “own” your steam games either.

I know GOG is not exactly “owning” either but its the closest thing we have to it in the PC gaming space.

It's still not perfect, but you guys stick to it and it came out way better than I expected.

BIG THANKS GOG for hanging in there .... 15 years and counting.

Who knows where the gaming industry would be now, if GOG had never happened.
How many of us would have spent far less on games.
And how more prevalent would game piracy be.
They keep some games "DRM free" for now, but they release more that are under DRM, and do U-turns and add DRM to already-released games, like their own games with Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk2077. I had purchased a dozen of games during the sales and refunded them as I came to the point of buying the Witcher 3 (and the serie as a whole) and came across the DRM on GoG controversy. The "fckdrm" page even got deleted, and they released an official statement in which they say that, to them, for a game to qualify as "DRM-free", it solely needs its campaign to be playable offline. GoG is not to be trusted and will be playing the "good guys, DRM-free underdogs" for their marketing without actually fitting the role.
