Temple of Elemental Evil is being released on Steam in September by SNEG.
Quoting from the store page of the game: "The Temple of Elemental Evil first came out in 2003 and has had a passionate community around it ever since. Over the years, fans have added a lot to the game and kept it alive in ways we really admire. This version builds on that work, and we’re genuinely thankful to everyone who’s helped along the way."

Currently it's not clear if the Steam version will be identical to the GOG one or if it will have any updated content.
More importantly, it is unknown whether and how SNEG's acquisition of the game's rights might affect the GOG version of the game and its very presence here.

SNEG was founded by former GOG employees and enjoys a very amicable relationship with GOG. I doubt it's going anywhere.

Agreed, however the game might get updated to a newer version. Hopefully they will keep the original one.
Might just be the version from GOG with community fixes (Circle of 8 modpack and/or Temple+) pre-applied -- kind of like how some of the old SSI D&D RPGs that had previously been released here had some community stuff added to the Steam versions when SNEG released them there later.

I spotted a short-ish video about this on YouTube yesterday, but I didn't care enough to watch it. Dunno how much actual information it contains, vs. speculation. My guess is "not much".

Since GOG has recently started providing more Mod support, it would be nice if they added both Temple+ and the Circle of 8 mods you just mentioned to their site.

Agreed. I would prefer it as optional DLC.

Really? I didn't know that. Thats cool! Hm then the game should be safe. I wonder just about the price since the original is only 5 bucks. What are the chances the new release is also that cheap?
