The games description isn't good enough ,the videos don't give enough information on what the gameplay is and neither do the reviews on the first page unless you saw the single sentence describing its gameplay from the middle of a large review halfway down the page.

"While it may not be much more than the standard Point&Click / QTE mechanics seen in previous Telltale titles, it actually fits the subject matter this time (coming from a FPS)."

Crap reviews can get the top spot because they were there first even if they have become out of date due to changes to the package.
An example is Dracula 4+5. Previously it looked like only 4 was being sold and the top reviews are complaining about this but now 5 is added so it makes those first reviews out of date complaining about something that doesn't exist anymore.
Always research a game outside of GOG. YouTube footage is one of the best ways to see if you'll like a game, imo.

EDIT: Also, always search through the reviews for ones with fewer than 5 stars; those usually have non-nostalgic info.

I hardly ever read gog review if i'm about to purchase particular game on gog. the review there is pointless regardless whether its positive / negative reviews.
About some reviews being outdated. I know sometimes GOG edits old reviews if some of the problems have been fixed. Look at Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri for example. Some of the older reviews mention the lack of the expansion but GOG edited the review stating that issue has been resolved.

But I do agree with you about the review system having problems. A lot of reviews either gush about how wonderful the game is based on their own nostalgia. Some negative reviews simply don't give any information on what's wrong either. Reviews stating things like, "the characters are boring" doesn't say anything. "The gameplay is uninspired" is probably a review cliche at this point and is equally useless. "Best game evar!!! Buy it NAO!!!" isn't anymore useful.

Then you have people downvoting critical reviews because "muh nostalgia".

User reviews are helpful but you have to know how to filter the good from the useless.
It is not like this problem is unique to GOG. Steam binary system is much worse. Any user review system have problems with outdated or pointless review and it is not something GOG (or any other store) can fix unless you want them to curate not only games but user reviews as well.
I agree Gog review system could be better for reasons you mention. My #1 request would be to give me the option of sorting by the most recent review. This is particularly valuable because a review from 2009 running on Windows XP is different than success/no success running on Windows 10. It simply takes forever to finally get to the recent reviews for some games because they're always at the end - not to mention that there's no incentive to leave a review because you know it'll never be seen on page 25.
There's some plugin you can use that puts the longest reviews at the front.

Yep, that's Adalia Fundamentals.

Highly recommended!

Watch parts of a walkthrough instead, if the game looks fun even half-way through, there's a good chance you'll enjoy it. This is a far better gague than reading what random people think on GOG/Steam/etc, or what some popular reviewer considers 'fun' (... which is the same as what every other reviewer in media and youtube considers fun, they are all the same).

I know it's not the topic but is there still somebody out there who does not know yet that since Telltale Games The Walking Dead ALL Telltale Games are using the same game mechanics (QTE + dialogues + choices) and only tell a different story?

The Walking Dead Season 1-2
The Wolf among us
Minecraft Story Mode + Expansion
Minecraft Season 2
Game Of Thrones
Guardians of the Galaxy
Batman 1+2

Only minor differences in gameplay - in general they are ALL the same and it is sort of a "love it or leave it" thing imo. Telltale's actual point and click days are unfortunately gone until Sam and Max and seeing how successful Telltale is with basically doing the same thing over and over (granted, they can tell good visual stories imo) why should they ever chnage back again?

Regarding reviews. Hmmm ... don't trust a review you have not written yourself I would say. The problem with those is that it always depends on what you do like and how the game fullfilled your expectations imo. If you like stories with only a little bit of gameplay those games are made for you. If you want to have an actual point and click adventure with puzzles you should stay away from it. I like those reviews which are actually telling what's in the game and what's not so I can decide for myself if my expectations will be fulfilled or not. Other things are mostly extremely subjective so not much use to me. But whenever I am unsure I would agree to what has been posted before: watch a part of a let's play and see if the game is for you or not. Reviews alone mostly are not enough no matter how good they are written. That of course is just my opinion.

As I once told another user:

Ain't nobody got time for that. Just wanted to see what the game was about.

That looks quite good but yet another patchwork fix for something that should be here as standard.

The first walkthrough I watched had some fruity haired hipster, shrieking commentary while jerking about in his seat which put me off that idea until someone on the 2nd or 3rd page of GoG reviews had a link to a proper playthrough.
I'll somewhat reiterate what I said in a similar thread about the same basic topic. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot anyone can do about the crap reviews. Doesn't matter if it is Steam or GOG. It's incredibly frustrating to see pointless, extremely lazy reviews about games when you want to know if you should get something or see what other people think. Seriously, what is the point of simply saying "good game" and posting it? Or "game is bland and uninspiring" and no explanation as to why?

I've thought about ways to try to at least mitigate garbage reviews, but I have not found any that are viable. For example, you could try making a minimum required length, but that doesn't solve anything. People will just find ways to hit the minimum with more pointless, low-effort stuff. Maybe they'll just add a bunch of exclamation points or extend words by repeating letters.

At the risk of sounding like I am tooting my own horn, this is why I try to be as fair as possible in my own reviews. I put forth what I found good and bad. For example, I despise Turok 2, but I gave it credit for a couple of things in my review for it. On the other hand, I adore Divine Divinity, but I put forth some criticisms in my review on it.

On a related note, for those of us who want to make legitimate reviews on here, GOG really needs to extend the maximum amount of characters we can type in a review. I don't think 2000 is enough for a well-rounded review. I'm not asking for us to be able to write a full-blown article, but I want some more room. 2500-3000 characters would probably be sufficient, I think.
