pds41: I know I'm going to regret posting in this thread but...

- If you think it's a scam or don't approve of the sales strategy from Paradox - don't spend your money on the game. They only run a model of base game + a tonne of DLC because people buy it

- For Surviving Mars specifically, I understand that the base game itself is pretty enjoyable and well featured (in a similar way to the base game of Tropico 4 being enjoyable and well featured). In any case, Haemimont and Paradox literally gave it away on Epic - I'd just claim the free copy, see if you enjoy it and then make a decision as to whether you want to buy any of the addons. Personally, I wouldn't call that a scam - I'd call that good marketing. It obviously sucks a bit more from a GoG perspective, as I don't believe the base game has been free on here.

pds41: I wouldn't have thought that somewhere with ACTUAL NATIVE GIRAFFES could have such angry people living there. I mean, if I got unreasonably upset about a company and lived in a country with native giraffes, I'd go outside and look at ALL THE GIRAFFES until I calmed down.
