Hello,

I was a huge fan of GoG idea and No-DRM games. I also hate game-launchers like Steam,Origin,UPlay,WB etc
I want to simply install the game and run it from my desktop shortcut. GoG was looking as a perfect platform for me. I can finally afford to buy games which I like.

But with the release of Wasteland 2, I saw true colors og GoG. And I'm leaving this platform with the Pilars of Ethernity premiere. Here is why:

1. W2 patches were delayed by week or more. IT's absolutely unacceptable. No matter what GoG excuse is, it's pure shit. People who have work cannot wait 3 days for path because GoG staff cannot create some auto-path-generoator. If I know that there is a serious bug with the city i haven't visited, how the hell I suppose enter it when I know that my quests will be broken?

2.
Our browser download links are IP-based, to accommodate browser download resuming. This works under normal circumstances, but, unfortunately, we have learned that if a user's connection assigns a different IP when connecting to our site, and then a different IP when the actual download is initiated with our file hosting provider, an IP mismatch occurs, resulting in the 403 error. We are currently unable to resolve this issue, whilst preserving our users' ability to resume browser downloads.
Seriously? One of the reason why I choose GoG is the lack of forced download client. What comes with resuming when you can't download at all?

I'm sorry but unless this will change, I'm leaving GoG for good. I've just collected Pilars of Ethernity key for Steam platform and I'm counting to have day-0 path immediate applied.

Thanks and goodbye.
Goodbye! =)
um... bye?

May I ask what your issue is with the client? I get that it's another program you have to install, but it works pretty well.
Most people here except that Gog is slow to respond with any communication or updates.
That's just the way it is here..
Gog was always bad regarding patches so that is nothing new here and hardly the reason for leaving. Although they are slowly improving.

The first issue is a very real issue that I can understand. It is extremely frustrating that GOG.com still doesn't seem to have streamlined the patching process, and the fact that you have to wait sometimes a very long time for patches is actually one of the major reasons I see people not choosing GOG.com. Even if they fixed this tomorrow, this is a reputation that could take a very long time to get rid off, especially after Wasteland 2.

And having just gotten Pillars of Eternity on GOG, I'm a bit paranoid over what's going to happen, since PoE is receiving extremely early patching.

The second point is a really odd priority by GOG, I must say, since it means that they prioritize people being able to resume their downloads over actually being able to download at all. I would expect them to act the other way around; use browser, with which most people don't use download resume anyway, for normal downloads, and IF you want to use download resume, use the fucking client.

I also don't see how hard it would be to fix.

I share your frustration, the complaints are warranted, but you just come across as a drama queen when it's a flamboyant farewell as if anyone cares about you.

The consistency is strong with this one.
Yeah, sure. See ya later.

1. Well I agree that GOG patching sucks compared to anything available elsewhere. The fact that until recently most patches meant re-downloading and re-installing whole client is just pure dumb. But to be fair sometimes the fault is on the developer side rather than GOG so maybe benefit of doubt here unless it is known to be GOG's fault.

2. Now that is a lame complaint, you don't want to use download client so you are going to Steam where only option to download is through a download client! That makes no sense!! I can think of over 2 quick solutions to overcome your problem here.

I hope you will re-consider GOG once things have a cooled a bit for you.

I don't want to sound like drama queen, i know that noone cares. I post it only because maybe someday it will be changed. I would love to see it because

I have to sacrifice using game client for the ability to have patches applied when the developers actually release it.

If that is worth it to you then so be it. A difference between the gog downloader and steam though is that many (i think most) games on steam requires the client to actually play the game not just download it.
Meh, I have no problem with waiting for a patch, playing games is not my top priority (though it might seem to be at times) anyway so all it's going to take for me is a little patience. And when the game's done patching (roughly half a year-a year after release), GOG installer is superior to that of... some other platforms I use.
With downloads, I often use third-party programs anyway, a habit from the times when I only had dial-up, so no problem here as well.
Anyway, if I'll be going to leave GOG for good, I might post some advice on improving the service - and that would be it. No "Close the door, I'm leaving", no nothing.
So... kthxbye, I guess.
I am always baffled how easily are people in various life situations giving up long term advantages, just to gain few inferior short term benefits.
OOhhhh man, if no auto patching or download resuming is better than no DRM or the annoying Steam,Origin, Uplay leeches that ruin a legal gamers joy, than good bye to you sir. I am supporting GOG 100%.They are slow, but like an old car, they get the job done.
