I guess the question is if it would be heavily region locked down, since the licensing rights are a nightmare and so it may only be sold playable in Japanese/Asian regions. But if it's not, then it may be possible to play it in english despite not being "officially" released in the us/europe since the all of the recent games in the series have complete english translations on the asian versions (albeit in the "SUCH WORDS, I COULD EVEN..." category at times) and overseas fans have been been encouraged to import them if they want to support the series.
Weren't the various console/handheld versions banned from the US due to licensing issues? I doubt the PC version will be any more acceptable. I mean, they just throw way too many franchises together into one game for it to ever pass. A game that can only be played by pirating.
What lisencing issues? If you are talkinng distribution in NA, probably the only conpanies to contact are in Japan as the companies in NA only have the anime shows series for rights. If not, the number of companies to contact is only a handful.
Very very cool, although I doubt they'll come here.
Sweet series if you like big ass robot anime. I'm partial to the older ones though.

Obtaining the worldwide rights for 10+ often older shows often belonging to different right owners, who may or may not have have licenses in place for said shows in different countries and not in others is not something easy to do, especially for a rather niche game outside of Japan; it was often cited as a ready why very few SRT games were ever released outside of Japan/Asia and those who were usually had original characters or only a limited roster belonging to a single right owner. (e.g. Bandai)
Only on Steam, so it's worthless anyway. I'm a fan of the SRT franchise, though, I prefer the older titles (SFC, PSX, PS2 mostly). We will see how it goes.

Any game released digitally online is worthless. The fact you can actually play it is great, regardless of where it is.

...which isn't untrue and the reason why I only spend big bucks on physical games and very little on digital ones. It depends. One can generally easily play all the games, unless they are on modern consoles and one doesn't own those.
Is this the series that had Super Robot Taisen? (spelling?).

I really didn't put much time into handhelds but I bought a ... DS I think? To play this one (it might have been a gameboy cart that I played on DS).

I just made a post in the Cyberstorm thread - I'm a sucker for robot games that let me assign pilots with meaningful contributions to their piloted mech and SRT had exactly this. I loved swapping around different styles of mech / vehicle with different gear and pilots to fill unique rolls.

I never solved the game, but had a ton of fun during my time with it.
Finally.

Super Robot Taisen is the name of the franchise. You might be talking about Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation. That game was released on GBA in 2006(NA) and 2007(EU), so in the West for a change.
Tactical RPG, I would so love to have played these games growing up. But searching the wiki, I wouldn't even know were to start. I guess once the games V and X get released, more people will start asking questions about where to start. I faced the same issue with Dragon Quest, and I had a great time playing XI, since it's basically stand alone.

EDIT: HANG ON A MINUTE!!! I've just started watching Yamato 2199, and Super Robot Wars V seems to be dealing with exactly those events. Could somebody that has played the game on PS4, settle the following for me:

Are all games in the series independent of eachother? And every game the developers pick a universe, in this case Yamato 2199, follow the events and characters of that that chosen universe, but during gameplay you can also use characters/items/ships/mechas from other series(such as Gundam and other)? Am I getting this right?

I'm kinda hypeing myself up :))

eh it's probably best not to think about any sort of plot or continuity too much because of all the different timelines and other nonsense involved. Basically seems there's the classic series, the Alpha series, and then the Masou Kishin and Original Generations series which are about the original characters and plotlines. Then most of the other games (the ones with letters) are more or less standalone but may be spread out over multiple games.

though while I say that, the OG series is apparently the plot of both the classic and alpha timelines and pretty much every other game taking place at the same time in the same universe.

the classic games are mostly fan translated but lack a lot of QOL stuff, the alpha games mostly aren't translated, so that mainly leaves some of the standalone games like V, X, and T or the OG games (probably 1 since it's the beginning and later games are a bi harder and there's a multiple game gap between OG2 and Moon Dwellers). So starting with one of the recent game is perfectly fine (and outside of of moon dwellers is probably geared more towards new players anyway).

I edited my original post, while you were composing your response. Thank you for the time you took explaining that.

So V, X, and T are standalone games with self contained stories. I baffled since I assumed it meant V->fifth game in the series, X->tenth game in the series. Anyway, these new releases sound a great point to start, especially since as I said I'm currently watching the Yamato 2199 anime.
