Can you describe your experience with Kenshi?
Does it offer some sort of narrative through its gameplay or the world?
avatar
GameRager: Most stores often drop new sales over time to longer sales....it incentivises people to keep checking in/back every few days during the sale. :)
avatar
Orpheus-GOG: Oh, IK why they do it. But it doesn't mean it's "the most consumer-friendly" way of doing business.
And it doesn't mean I don't have the right to wish for something different, you know? ;)
That's totally understandable....everyone often wishes things were different to some degree/in some way.

Unique; Captivating.

It does not have a personal narrative running in the background like Elder Scrolls / FO Series or a typical quest system. Its a very detailed sandbox which will probably make you feel a bit lost at the very start (What to do? Where to go?) but it was (for me at least) very entertaining to find this out for myself. Ironically while the world shows a (post-post?) apocalypse it feels VERY alive with how the NPCs react to the players and each others; the stories tell themselves by circumstance.

Fondly I remember the case of a really big cannibal war group that began a raid on a small castle I build. I decided to meet them halfway with the elite team I build around my main (mainly because I was to lazy to clean up the corpses right in front of my gate). So when my group was almost down the hill and I had the view over the dale and saw the massive horde coming I saw them again being followed by a small group of Beak Things which had spawned nearby. These are very tall vicious herd predators which are even more nasty with the AOE sweeps they use when they are surrounded. In the end I just leaned back and watched the ground turn red in the distance when the beaks got their snack and a few min later the "raid on my castle has ended" message flared up. *added some screens I made; fun times :P*

Be tricky at the beginning. You won't have an inn keeper that gives you 50 gold to clean out the rats. But you can have a band of hungry bandits chasing you into the next city where the get slaughtered and you can get your first equip by looting them. Also expect to get roughed up a lot at the beginning. Here is literally what does not kill you makes you harder i.e. you gain faster toughness and defense skills when you are on the receiving end.

And if you do not like hunger systems in games like these you can set it to max; you chars still will need food but its nearly a non issue.

Also if you like to mod your game you can do that too; there are quite a few mods offered on Nexus and other places.

The devs usually have some say in what site gets the better discount so they could be trying to push more sales on steam.
Kenshi owns. There's not too many recent games of this scope that are this weird and mean. If you appreciate a weirdo passion project and have a high tolerance for jank, I'd recommend it. You're going to lose horribly until you start figuring things out, but I highly recommend not reading a Wiki. It's one of THOSE games.
Are we ever going to get original Doom 3 + ROE?

Point_Man: Are we ever going to get original Doom 3 + ROE?
So far it would seem the devs of the BFG edition don't like people having the ability to mod the game and enjoy the 3 missing arcade cabinet games in ROE. :(

I agree! Still waiting on original D3 + RoE. Inevitably legal issues I guess.

edit: kinda funny in an "ugh" way, on Steam D3 + RoE purchased separately is $8 but the bundle remains $10.

Thanks a lot. Kenshi looks really interesting and apparently there is a lot of freedom about gameplay.
If the gameplay and environment leads to narrative and world building that is great too.
Also I believe the different characters you start with can have backstories, right?

There are different starting backgrounds which afaik* can change starting location, condition, equip of your char or even group size so you could start with multiple chars (you can always get a gang if you want; even if you just start with one; default max is 30 [incl. animals]; modded max is more than any normal PC can handle).

*I only had one start as of now and thats what I'm still playing. I don't feel the need to restart any time soon.

Yup, the mods & i actually prefer the flashlight how it was in the original. It added to the atmosphere/tension. I never thought of Doom 3 as a full on action game like the originals or the 2016 Doom is, so i prefer to play it how it originally was.

What legal issues? Doesn't Bethesda own id now? I think they just never bothered to release it here along with the BFG edition unfortunately.

Doom 3 + ROE is actually currently on sale on Steam. $5 for both, but i'd really rather get it here :/.

Yeah I shouldn't have said "inevitably". I thought it might have something to do with being published Activision (vs Bethesda publishing BFG) but I have no evidence of that.

I'll wait for it to show up too.
