Call me a Debbie Downer but it was honestly both a little annoying and confusing to receive an email saying that one of my wish listed games was on sale (no mans sky) when it wasn't. Finding the landing page for the sale which i have linked above that offers a whopping $3 off a single title didn't really clear things up.

Anybody have the slightest clue whats going on or is it just me confused as all heck by this ?

I am confused, too.
Its a bug. Someone even got an email saying some game is on sale til 2026.
Also look at the games and the discounts.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna have to splurge and get in on the action while the supplies last! xD
At this point I wonder if they're just doing it to troll us.

It's not a sale. It's a mail mentioning the "big releases" GOG had recently, or will have soon, and a "promo" page with all of those in one place. Those include two preorders (Batman and No Man's Sky), one game that finally left InDev/EA and got released (Starboung) and one game that GOG got the InDev version of (We Happy Few).
There have been similar mails for big releases in the past as well.

I don't think that those past examples had a promo page set up, though. (Except when they were discounted due to preorder.)

And I am sure you are right about how it happened, whereas I would like to understand why. Why make a promo page for something that is not a promo by any definition? Why set a script to send emails that something on my wishlist is discounted just because it's a part of such "promo" (rather than when it's actually discounted)? Why end the mail "Visit GOG.com for details on individual discounts." (plural!), which is very misleading, when only one of the games have any kind of price reduction?

Tin foil hat explanation : this is a conspiration. some group of marketing madmen probe the market with dirty tricks to see how reactive the market is to such tricks. If this results in significant additional sales, then, "good news" (TM)

Skeptical explanation : there is obviously less and less staff involvment in this platform. Everything seems to be piloted by scripts, and scripts do what they are told to do, even if to the observer it looks plain stupid to advertise a superb sale : "Get no Man's sky for 59.99 instead of 59.99, limited time offer, until it lasts ! And as a one-off bonus , this game will be downloadable throgh Galaxy . Hurry !".

politically correct explanation : this is the unfortunate result of a blunder by a student hired on a limited time contract.

Cynical explanation : negative rates on saving accounts is the new normal. Soon, we'll get negative discounts on games as well.

:-) Thank you.

But it is my employer you should applaud. They expose me to corporate decision making and information policies all the year long ;-)
