MarkoH01: And I also can confirm that after downloading you don't need the game launcher anymore.
can also confirm after the initial install, you can copy the game dir to a new device and still be able to run the game without the launcher. may need to copy dir given in monitor_log.txt. thats where they descided to keep your savefiles.

only tested on win10.
Had an account for the software they used to download UT2015 (which got shafted and the software also did present an error just now, so I deleted the unfinished game and the software).
I then proceeded to use this login for the epic games launcher. Subnautica free wohoo.

Sabin_Stargem: I recommend waiting until the new Unity 2018 engine update is released for Subnautica. The game requires a beefy system to look good, and still has pop-in issues. The update should make it a little easier for the game to run nicely.

TARFU: Why wait and have to pay money for it when you can get it now for free and then play it on a "beefy system" later?
Or possibly run it at a lower resolution... I haven't tried downloading or starting it to see if my mid-level machine will handle it well...

Actually it would be better if the 16Gb ram i got in the mail worked, but i think my board might need a flashing and i'm worried about doing that just yet.
Thanks for all the input and experiementation all! Appreciate it.
If you play Subnautica, I recommend using mods to make the game less tedious. Better maps, auto-sorting lockers, extra quick slots, being able to swap out vehicle parts from inside, scanner improvements, ect.

The game itself is worth a playthrough, if only to tour the various environments.
Bump to remind everyone that the Subnautica giveaway has ended and now Super Meat Boy is being given away for free.
I'll never understand this, how a new store such as Epic's gets to offer these games for free, and I can't even pay to buy them on GOG.

Yeah, though everyone who wants super meat boy must have it by now. It's been in many bundles and has been on sale for less than $2 in pretty much all stores.

Subnautica looks cool though. I would pay for it if GOG had it. Does this have something to do with Steam Early Access? Some sort of exclusivity thing?

From everything I have read, Epic did this as a bold opening statement that they are planning on going head to head with Steam. The next year or so should bring interesting developments.

The Chinese company "tencent" owns 40% of Epic now and they want a bite of the multi-billion dollar game sales industry, so there ya go.
