Fellow GOGlodytes, at the root of this matter is ultimately a common desire that everyone shares. That is that the review system on GOG.com is essentially wholly inadequate for meeting the current and future needs of the large multi-cultural ever expanding GOG customer base and it is long overdue that something be done about it. Not just about the specific topics raised here, but the larger range of issues people have raised over time in the forums concerning the inadequacies of the review system.
It's very clear that many people are angry about the shortcomings of the system, and that while it continues to fail to meet the needs of customers and rot, it ends up being fuel that divides people and puts everyone against each other out of anger and discontentment rather than bringing people together into a happy and healthy community to share our love for gaming. Everyone has a right to be upset and to express themselves of course, but unfortunately no matter what someone's opinions are about these matters either way nor how they express it to others - none of that is going to have any net effect whatsoever of changing the behaviour of tens of millions of GOG.com customers, the majority of whom will never even know this thread in the forums even exists, and thus it will have no effect on the underlying fundamental problem at hand. It's all an unsustainable game of whack-a-mole that fails at the economies of scale at hand.
This thread instead serves to send a hopefully very loud message to GOG.com that people are straight out not happy about how the review system works and have a right to feel this way. People should not have to kick down the doors of GOG.com to see the necessary changes happen either. There is enough noise about this kind of thing in the forums going on for years now that it should be a well known problem to GOG and it is time for them to step up to the plate and do something about it now. Until they do my fellow forum dwellers, not only is nothing going to change with regards to these problems based on people expressing their opinions about what others should or shouldn't do, but the problems are only going to get worse, and people will end up going for each other's throats without any progress ever being made and without anything changing, at least not for the better.
This is 100% solely a problem that only GOG can solve by taking action, and only if they're willing to recognize it for the problem it is and to treat it an important and vital part of their global brand building and community building initiatives in their ever expanding global business. It is entirely a business decision and requires a business action plan if the problem is ever going to be resolved. They should be looking at how other businesses have solved this kind of problem such as Steam, Amazon and other retailers and learn something from that. They need to devote and dedicate man power and other resources to it to make it happen, and then have it properly maintained over time to address ongoing concerns that come up as well.
I think I can safely speak for most of you too in saying that it is something that GOG needs to publicly acknowledge rather than remaining silent about, and they need to assure everyone that they are going to do something about it and engage and communicate with the community if they want a healthy community to remain here and continue to grow. If people feel that their needs are being ignored, that leads to feeling and expressing negative emotions and opinions which are likely to differ and cause disagreement which if escalated can lead to hostility and ultimately results in an unhealthy situtation for everyone as well as for GOG.
I'd like to suggest that everyone try not to be angry with each other, and directly let GOG know how you feel instead.
Rise up and join together my fellow Goglodytes, recognize that your differences of opinion have at their root a common cause! Bring that to virtual doorstep of our gracious host and let them know something needs to be done. Write to GOG.com support and let them know how you feel, what your needs are and how they're not being addressed. Share your feelings here in the forums, and with the blues, blog about it, tweet about it, Facebook about it. There are power in numbers and eventually it can't be ignored and it becomes a priority that needs to be addressed.
Just be sure to try and be as polite, civil and respectful as you possibly can though too! The age old saying "you get further with honey than you do with guns" is a good thing to live by, although venting a few gripes and moans along the way don't necessarily hurt either. :) Just try not to be too angry or up in arms if possible.
Anyhow, hope I didn't knock anyone out with my massive wall of text. It was well intentioned and "For The Cause!!!(TM)". :o)
