I guess it is a balance between people worried about their ratio and people wanting to get games that are difficult to get otherwise (non-bundled, etc).

In other news, I've been incredibly lucky in this group (and on gog in general) recently, and I got a little money into my paypal just now so I wanted to give something back. It is just a start (hopefully), but I figured I'd give away a game that seems very popular, and hasn't been bundled yet.

Don't know if I'd get it for myself any time soon (damned uplay), but for people who don't mind that, I hear it is an incredible game:
Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Apparently I actually am able to win Steamgifts giveaways - as long as there are a maximum of two entries. But I've had a couple of good (2-entry) wins lately, so here's some zombie play for y'alls:

Level 2+ until Friday afternoon US East Coast time. Good luck!

Azrael360: Another HOG, but if you don't have it and like these types of games, this one is a must-have. It's really good ;)

fwiw, it's a good game - mostly puzzle game with minigames, but also good at letting you identify with some key character choices during war time. Definitely worth a play.

Some helpful GreaseMonkey scripts I made for the group. They are more administrative tools, but everyone is welcome to use them.

I have a question regarding region restricted gifting.

I have a few Steam keys for games that are region restricted to North America only. Steamgifts normally only allows region restricted giveaways if you mark what region it's restricted to when creating the giveaway. My problem is that there is no North America only option (only Poland, RU+CIS, SE Asia, South America and Turkey). Now if I were to create those giveaways for this Steam group and list them as North American only under the giveaway description would that be allowed in this group? Or would the group not allow us to do this?

I just wanted to ask before I bothered creating the giveaways. I don't want to cause any problems so I figured I'd ask first. Thanks.

From the SG Guidlines:

Region restricted gifts and keys are allowed for a select number of regions. If you have a gift or key for another region, it should not be posted at this time.

I don't know if the SG admins would authorize a re-roll if someone outside of the NA region won. I don't know if it being a group giveaway would matter to them or not.

Perhaps one of the other officers knows more, but I'd say it's probably not a good idea to do so because of SG's rules.

I figured that was the case, but I thought I'd ask anyways. Thanks for confirming it with me.

I just hope they update that region restriction list soon then.

Well I opened a ticket with Steamgifts to ask if I could create giveaways with North American restricted keys and only allow people I've whitelisted to participate (those being people who confirm they're in North America and can activate the keys) and they said it was fine (I got the idea from a topic I found on the Steamgifts forums where someone else did something similar). They did also say that the filtering would be my responsibility and that they wouldn't allow a reroll if someone won who couldn't activate the key.

With that all being said is that something this group would allow? Would it be allowed for me to create these giveaways and whitelist only the members who can confirm they're from North America and can activate the key? Or would that still not be allowed since technically I wouldn't be allowing all members of this group to participate (i.e. the ones who are located outside of North America)?

If you guys think this still might be a problem then I'll stop bothering you with this subject. Again, sorry to be such a pain about all of this. Thanks.

bmxjouster:
Let me start by saying that I have no experience with how groups and whitelists work together.

It looks like checking both options allows members from the group AND those in your whitelist to be able to enter.

There does not appear to be a way to make a group giveaway that is restricted to a whitelist or be invite only. You have to just make it a Whitelist OR Invite Only giveaway and do your own filtering like they said. And doing so means it's not a group giveaway so you're free to do what you want.

bmxjouster, fwiw I have one region restricted game in inventory "frozen synapse prime" (I'm in north america) - and on their board the dev was saying he didn't even know he had enabled region restriction, and some of the posters said they were able to gift the game out of region (a poster said he had north american version and was able to gift it to EU. I don't know if that means there's maybe a heirarchy of regions? Another person from Canada was able to gift to Russia despite the region lock indicator.

see posts 42+ in the forum for the topic.

Anyhow, just passing that along in case your game might have something similar going on.

What game do you wnt to giveaway on Steam that has a NA only region lock?
Shouldn't that be used to warn/ban users Asap? If I understand it, if anyone shows up as red, aren't they supposed to be kicked from the group?
With that script, I can see 4 red accounts that havent logged in for some months, and the other reds are generally fairly "leech" heavy on SG in general.
