DS-Rusty: Hello all,
I am not very fond of Steam for various reasons and after hearing about GoG Connect, I was hopeful my Witcher games would activate on GoG Galaxy after connecting my Steam account.
Is this not the case or have I mis-understood what Connect will do?
I have all three Witcher games on Steam along with the Witcher adventure game.
Thanks.
Using the link triock provided one can obtain GOG copies of The Witcher, and The Witcher 2, but no other games. That is a service they've provided for years now which predates GOG Connect.
GOG Connect is a service that GOG provides to publishers to promote their games on GOG periodically by allowing them to obtain GOG copies of specific games they choose for very limited times. The way it works generally is during a big GOG sale, certain publishers will allow their customers that own SPECIFIC games on Steam, to get a free copy on GOG. This only works with base games and not DLC because Steam does not provide information on which DLC someone owns through the Steam API. These GOG Connect offers happen several times per year and normally last anywhere from a few days to a week or so upon which the special offer ends.
GOG Connect does not provide ongoing free copies of random games from Steam to GOG however. There are only games available when individual publishers decide to utilize the GOG Connect service to promote specific individual games on GOG.
The best way to take advantage of GOG Connect, is to either monitor the GOG website regularly and keep an eye out for the GOG Connect advertisement block on the homepage, or to install the Barefoot Essentials browser addon which will put a GOG Connect icon link at the top of the store page when GOG Connect is actively promoting games.
In addition to The Witcher backup promotion, and GOG Connect, there is a third service they provide which works with a static list of other games, you can find at:
https://www.gog.com/reclaim which also appears as "RECLAIM YOUR GAME" on the GOG store homepage.
Hope this helps.
