That dosn't answer my question ;]
No steam key if you pre-order it here, gog will never ever give you an steam key if you buy a game from them NEVER! Source: Simple logic.

Afaik GOG never gives out Steam keys ever, doubt they'll change policy for W3.

But for The Witcher 2, they give everyone a Steam Key?

Buy witcher 1 or 2 on Steam and you get free key on GOG.

(concerning achievements in general)

I don't think that GOG gives Steam keys.
Whats the deal with that little pictures telling you for example that you are a good boy because you finished the tutorial? Who cares?

But GOG used to give free GOG keys for anyone owning the game on Steam, which now presents a weird incentive for me to wait and get it there... Meh, I'll probably get it on GOG anyway, but it's not the most efficient way of obtaining the game from my previous experience.

No: everyone with a Steam key can come here to register its The Witcher 2, but not the opposite :)

[Edit] Too late :)

I just need to stress that the GOG keys is something that happened in the past - there's no guarantee for it to happen again. I think it's likely, purely for GOG to lure people over from Steam, but it's far from being set in stone. For now, I would suggest to wait for what future holds - after all, Withcer 3 won't get released until the next year.

This thing I'll never get.
When I have some games on several platforms I never touch them on some and only play them on one, so why should I feel more incentive to get it on 2 platforms instead of one. I wouldn't variate between playing them anyway.

It doesn't matter. When I can buy something for one platform and then the other one gives it to me for free, where the other option is to buy it on one platform and only have it there, it's suboptimal to buy it on the platform where I will not get the free version. The discussion of rewarding the devs, some exclusive preorder bonuses and whatnot (Steam'll probably have that as well tho, just different ones) nonwithstanding, the entire issue boils down to one thing: One approach gets me copy of the game on one service, the other approach gets it on two. If anything happens to the alternate service provider, I will always be able to rely on the other one.

Get yourself some kids, gf or wife who play computer games and try to fight over controlling that lone steam account with all the fun games :)
