almabrds: I'd not celebrate yet, it may be fake.
Long ago an article said Blizz were making HD edition to classic Warcraft (I & II).
They never released that.

Matewis: A WC2 HD version would be awesome! WC3 as well. WC1's level design I feel have aged a bit poorly
Yeah, those games need the update more I think (assuming they do more than a graphics update). Level design could always be improved by fans with a good editor.

What you mean you want Diablo and Warcraft to have the same fate and end up in an always on, micro transaction auction house?

Well, there are few definates in this world, but I can say that no Blizzard game will ever come here. Secondly it won't be just a graphics update, there is noting in it for them. It will have some online only component at least via battle.net or whatever it is now, and it will only be sold via their store. Likelihood they will try to push something for some cash - best result being expensive dlc, worst case micro transactions and such like.

Crosmando: Hopefully the "graphical update" doesn't mean changing the original unit/building sprites or the map tilesets, they are perfect, all that needs changing is the resolution.
It probably involves moving to the SC2 engine, and using 3d models like all their games since WC3.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the interim scenes. WC3 used the in game rendering for most of it, whereas SC2 used cinematics for almost all of it. The cheap option is to up the quality and use the same scenes, but I wonder if Blizzard will actually take the time to reshoot it all in cinematics, with the aim of building it into a new Warcraft universe. We have to consider that there are 2 new films planned, they will undoubtedly feature Arthas and The Legion. They might be lining it up with regards to this.

That would be a total remake, not a HD-ization.

Grargar: Sigh, still no love for Diablo 1. :(
I can see why they'd give priority to Starcraft.
Starcraft has huge popularity in Korea.
If it sells well I don't see why they'd not do the same for their other IP's.

If there was one great aspect about StarCraft besides gameplay, it's that it included a map editor that was so powerful for it's time. Other RTSes even tried to included similar such map editors into their games. If I recall correctly, there was even a Team Fortress styled map that was included with StarCraft (predating even Half-Life's Team Fortress Classic Mod, but came out after Quake's Team Fortress Mod).

While StarCraft II's Map Editor is now far more powerful than even WarCraft III's; y'all could say StarCraft was the game that served as a foundation for powerful map editors for RTS games.
