Recently had a nostalgia trip and bought a few old SW games. Rogue Squadron - wonderful. Dusted off my old FFB2 which works perfectly. Game is fine.

Hey, I thought, what about Alliance? Duly bought and installed.

Click 'Play Game' - I get the whoosh effect and then - nothing. No message, no blips, just deposited back on the desktop without so mucb as a by-your-leave.

I opened a ticket at GoG but I'm dubious about the response given other users tales of woe...

I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling a handful of times, changing the install directory (does work sometimes haha) and running in various compatibility modes. I use Windows 10 64bit with a GTX1070.

I have a lovely Alliance icon on the desktop which gives me the launcher but then nothing else. I've created the default pilot (Ace Azameen) in case the game didn't want to start without a profile. Nope.

The FFB2 joystick works perfectly, is all installed, feedback is all exactly as it should be. Other games from GoG are all fine and dandy.

Any ideas basically..?? :-)

Top man. Thank you. This led to the solution within 5 minutes, identifying Windows Legacy Components / Direct Play inside Control Panel / Switch Windows Features On or Off.

Have a good one.

And What Did We Learn Today, Kids?

You have more luck checking or posting in the GOG forums devoted to specific games series then in making a post in the General Discussion section.

It's not like the specific game forums are hard to find on GOG....

Can send some virtual beer tokens? Always drink responsibily of course. :-) Have a good one!

(As you'll note I also posted the solution in my first response in case any other hapless wanderers do what I did and post in the wrong section... Feel free to flag it with moderators and delete / move it as you see fit.)
