tinyE: I played the first one and I totally agree.

Breja: The sequel was ok, worth playing, but it didn't live up to the original.
wasn't as good as the first but still had its charms. was cool seeing what a Klingon starbase looks like.

you could also do some fun stuff with modding the game.

I was in the ship's cargo bay. looking at all the girl dudes from the squad.

sexy dancing.

good stuff.

Breja: finally play A Final Unity, Borg and Klingon Honor Guard.
I have fond memories of A Final Unity, since I worked at Spectrum Holobyte at the time and it was a good game. Highly recommended.

Klingon Honour Guard is a different story. After I left Spectrum Holobyte, they merged with Microprose. I remember going in for a re-hire interview at the merged company and having a discussion about the various things Microprose was working on and had recently released. When Klingon Honour Guard came up, even the interviewer rolled his eyes and said it was better that we forget about that one. Having played the game beforehand I knew how terrible it was and agreed to not bring it up again.

For other Star Trek shooters, I recommend giving Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Fallen a try.

You'll find that I bring Final Unity up pretty much all the time when games we'd like to see on GOG are being discussed. There is no other game I can think of that I want to play more, no other "good old game" that I so wanted to play and never had the chance.

You know, it might be a terrible piece of crap, but come on - it's the only Klingon themed FPS out there. I just have to know, man. I have to experience it for myself. I must experience Bij.

I played it and it's... ok. That's how far I'll go. I thought the story was so-so and the gameplay didn't exactly blow me away, but then again I played it years after it's initial release so it was probably more impressive back then, and it still holds up well enough to play to the end, so I guess that's something.

I suppose I can't blame you. Curiosity was the reason I bought it even after reading some not-so-glowing reviews.

It does have some moments that drag on, but the game feels cohesive and you get to visit some fairly show accurate locations.
I've heard decent, if not amazing, things about KHG. And also that it's basically an Unreal mod, and you can even use to console to spawn in Skaarj?

Anyway, I think the biggest issue with getting some of the later Star Trek games is because there was a big fucking falling out between Activision and Viacom, with Activision accusing Viacom of running the franchise into the ground which was hurting game sales or something. Star Trek Armada 3 had a very short printing because of this too, if I remember right.

There was a 3? I never even heard of that.

No there is no Armada 3 game. But there is an Armada 3 mod for another, not Star Trek, game. The very short printing game was Bridge Commander.

Sorry, Starfleet Command 3, I remembered it was a 3 and didn't check.

Ah, yes. I remember that was sort of a blip, disappeared pretty quickly. I never liked the Starfleet Command series anyway. Waaay to much things to fuck around with for my taste. I never really got the hang of those games. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I prefer simpler space battles like in Star Trek Online or Rebel Galaxy or something in-between like Bridge Commander.
Yes, definitely one of the better Star Trek games. Would be nice to see especially with discovery having come out recently and all. Would've been better if they'd released last year to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary.
SFC3 was a fantastic game though. all the purists knocked it for dumbing down the series but I really enoyed SFC3. it was optimized to play at a higher speed and the speed of it was fun. it has one of the best mods of any game ever in the SFC3 Rebalance Expansion or "Rexpansion" for short. this mod actually had music custom made for it and it sounds fucking awesome. EQ is a little soft but whatever.

I actually have probably the best torpedo textures maybe made for that game. I made them myself. in that game the reused the texture files from the previous ones for the torpedo textures. those effects were made to look like what we saw in the original series movies but it didn't fit the CGI that was on the TNG era tv shows. so I made some torps for photons and quantums and I think I had the best ones that I had found anyway. at least for photons.

I was surprised that gog didn't follow up SFC with SFC2, which I guess is largely looked at as the pinnacle of the series, but maybe SFC didn't sell well for them or it's rights related or something like that.

I've only played the first one, got one of those discs with a bunch of older Star Trek games on it. Absolutely loved it.

The only other game I know for sure was in that collection was Star Trek: New Worlds. Was that as bad as I remember hearing? I know I played a bit of it, but I don't remember anything about it beyond reviews saying it was real bad.

I only played a demo of that. I don't remember it as being terrible, just mediocre. And it was very weird, for a Star Trek game to have a planet surface-bound RTS like that, and a story about planets from another universe appearing in ours becasue of some weapon explosion or something. Still, if it ever appears on GOG I'll gladly pick it up on a sale, just out of curiosity to see what the whole thing was like.
