Even though hemp seeds are a brilliant source of nutrition, I'm not sure they've make the most flavoursome pesto. I grow basil (although at this time of year where I live mine hasn't grown enough to provide anything due to the cold) and if you don't have pine nuts, cashews or pistachios can make a good substitute :)

 Ah it makes sense now, it is more closely related to chives and leeks than garlic. Oooh I want to try this plant now!! I wonder what it's medicinal properties are like, probably similar to other plants in the same family.
