Which would you suggest ?
One of them let's you blow up big space ships. The other one doesn't.

yea well, i would not call it directly a science fiction versus fantasy choice but yea, if you like to blow up big ships and your looking to blow up big ships then spellforce 2 would definitely not be for you
Completely different, aren't they?
My vote is on Spellforce 2, but i only finished the spellforce 2 shadow wars and remember that it was a pretty fun hybrid between strategy with base building and resource gathering and also rpg with some quests like in rpgs which i enjoyed very much, but that was long ago. Also not always are you buiolding bases and creating units sometimes you have to play the rpg part of the game where there will be no base building.
Think you get another expansion with spellforce 2 anniversary but i didn't play that one yet. Oh and i don't know if above anniversary the other add-ons are even worthy since some team left or something.
And am still playing the first spellforce since i never finished any campaign there.

Dying light.
The first Battlefleet Gothic Armada was OK but just that: only one campaign for one faction, even if more were available (as DLC) in multiplayer. It was more of a MP game. The optimization was not that great: the battles run well, but the change of screen for customizing ships was sluggish. Also, there was not much to do in the strategid layer, other than choosing (repetitive) missions and upgrading your flotilla.

They say that they have improved in all those aspects. If that is true, then I would take the sequel.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is another real time strategy game featuring large spaceships as well.

you can't call battle star galactica real time with those time based turns ;)

i have star hammer 2 which could be considered another recommendation if you'd enjoy the mechanics and don't take life to seriously...

it does takes serious thinking and mastering formations if you want to keep every ship save from the horde assaults. Very different btw from battlestar though the mechanics are the same

Oops! True! I misremembered. Simultaneous turns, that is the right thing to say. Thanks for the reminder

I understood you! :) When I said that simultaneous turns was the right thing to say, I was thinking about my own post before that, when I mindlessly wrote real time

In any case, there is not such a thing as too many space strategy games ;-)

actually went tonight completely out of my brain by spending another euro at a bundel now available on fanatical gaming store

Exodus bundle is named and consists out of a variety of high rated mostly unknown gamign titles consisting out of 3 tiers of purchase, 1 euro for the first 3, 5 for 6 and 9 i belief for three more uhm better quality titles

now i can call myself the happy owner of 3 more games namely botvice, replica and republique
