The problem isn't Sonic, it is SEGA being unwilling to explore their other properties. EG: Space Channel 5, Ecco the Dolphin, Panzer Dragoon, Phantasy Star, Eternal Champions, and many others. In this era of relatively cheap development of games via the Unity Engine and competitors, it wouldn't be hard to rustle up indie teams.
