Wouldn't it make sense from GOG's perspective though to encourage customers to use all available features of the website, since they put them there for being used? Many other websites and stores do the same, and even when they give out free games, GOG is still a store with their own interests at heart, not a charity. If they wanted to push Galaxy even more, they could give away free games only for those with Galaxy installed. It's not like this is unusual behavior for companies. It's not necessarily "nice" or sympathetic, but It's not "wrong" either, since noone is entitled to free games and GOG is not bound to always please everyone, including those who are disinterested in features that GOG would view as integral part of their service.

That being said, using the wishlist just to get freebies is a risky gamble for the users. If GOG would actually choose to gift a random game from users' wishlists one day, those who indiscriminately added stuff to their wishlists might end up with getting something they didn't really want, as opposed to one of the games they most wished for. ;)

(And I'm sure they would complain about it. :P)

Yes, of course.

But with that in mind, what they did here makes even less sense.

They didn't encourage anyone to use the wishlist, they simply used already existing wishlist userbase to gift games. Unannounced.

And those were games which are possibly being pulled from sale soon enough, so it doesn't work that well for any long-term promotion, and even in the short-term, those who got gifted these free games are not going to buy them in case there will be an announcement about Telltale games leaving the store and being available for purchase the remaining 48 hours or something.
low rated
this giveaway thing was like unexpected jihad (see on youtube) - some people will always cry about it :-/

Xankara: While I don't want to seem ungrateful for not being lucky, the way GoG phrased this could have been done so much better.

PixelBoy: Yeah.
It's a nice idea, but to base that on wishlists is wrong. I would be totally OK with some random lottery, but this is benefiting those who use certain features of the website, and those who don't, are automatically excluded.
They did this in the past and people still were complaining.
This time I must say that I'm disappointed, I had asked for a final sale of Telltale titles, but I hadn't put them in the wishlist because I use it only for a few games that I can forget. In this way I haven't received anything because there hasn't been any notice, and I don't find it very fair to the most frequent customers.

Not receiving information is bugging me more than not receiving free games, actually.
Some people received some emails about Telltale games being removed. I guess that was probably based on wishlists too.

Yes, in fact I never even got that email.

I got an email about the Walking Dead series being removed, possibly because I already own part of the series and had the rest on my wishlist. I've never had anything mentioning the rest of the Telltale catalogue and I have wishlisted every game that I don't own (and I did that way before the surprise gifting).
Didn't see the email but did get the game. Cool. Now put the rest on sale and I'll buy the rest of the catalog.

Well, me and several others got the second Batman game for free without owning the first one (even though it was on the wishlist as well, but it wasn't part of the freebie pool). I'd say that is a pretty sneaky way to create an incentive for buying a Telltale game before it's gone forever. ;)

Next time maybe be clearer in that not everyone will be getting something, and not just disappoint customers with a false promise. Honestly baffling that they could make it so unclear.
All users which have wishlisted that selected number of titles have received them.

supplementscene: I added some of those games after, any chance of getting one of them ;)
Sadly, no...

SolidSnale: Just a curiosity, I read on other forums people received Thronebreaker, is this true? Because I have Thronebreaker, Witcher 3 and other games on my wishlist and received nothing.
No, it's not true :)
A nice one from GOG. Unfortunately I did not have any Telltale Games on my wishlist when this was done, but I congratulate those who got a game they wanted :)

CraigGen_1970: Cheers for the free game, Penis Enlarg...... Oh wait, thats a different email.
Hold on, Nope, didn't get anything.

tinyE: I don't suppose you could forward me that, huh?

I uhhhhhhh, need it for a friend. *cough*
You're more than welcome to have mine, pre-owned. Genuinely, only used "once". ;-)
Dammit, I own pretty much all of Telltale's games on my Telltale account, and have been hoping for a way to transfer them onto a service that isn't likely to disappear any day now.

Didn't think to wishlist them though.
