lukaszthegreat: But for guns for first play go with toreador
Yeah, it's the only option really. Be a smooth talking gunslinger. I did a playthrough like that and enjoyed it, though the game was obviously made with melee combat as its focus.

I didn't get that impression at all, guns can be extremely powerful in the 2nd half of the game (which is really where most of the fighting is concentrated anyway).
I agree with the general opinion: all are good for a beginner, except Nosferatu and Malkavian.
My only recommendation is to get skills with guns, that's it. The final is very imbalanced, you just need firepower, no way around it.
Gangrel is the best melee fighter IMO.

Fortitude is the thing you want to invest into. On max level, it is basically immortality against all but the strongest enemies.

Tremere.

Do yourself a favour and use The True Patch instead of The Unofficial Patch, that piece of shit should be avoided.

Yes but early on they are terrible, which turns off new players.

I bit the bullet and rolled a Ventrue.

I felt like it was the canon Vampire clan for this story because as soon as it begins I am at the mercy of a Ventrue Vampire Prince and he killed my sire who apparently worked for Lecroix.

And their Bloodbuff is really good.

Early on one can get by with unarmed melee, even without putting any points in it (or maybe one or two at most). The combat doesn't really get challenging until late in the game (at least in the vanilla version, don't know how it is with mods).

Ooo?

Haha. Did not here that since bloodline forums I frequented 8 years or so ago.

Big arguments about it by the creator of true patch

So nostalgic.

Is there still any reason for using this alternative patch now that the unofficial patch by Wesp5 comes in two variants, including a fixes-only one?

Brujah or Gangrel as they are the best for melee.
Haven't played the other clans yet.
Do yourself a favour and play as a Malkavian in your second playthrough. :D

Installing the game again just now, damn it! :P

Both variants are "mods" and Wesp5 never respected the Vanilla version, he is a liar. You can do whatever you want but be aware that even the basic patch includes a lot of stupids modifications.

Is Nosferatu good at melee?
Oh, right, now I remember reading this all these years ago.
And it reminds me why I never tried, and will never try, this "true" patch.

So how do you remove the Unofficial patch from the official GOG download so you can install the True Patch and mods on top of it? Because the Unofficial patch is baked into the GOG install.
