Did the OP have to use such harsh language?
No change needed, works fine as is.
Celebrate good times, c`mon!
*sings along*
Custom views, like a modern RSS feed aggregator. Game title - topic title - last post timestamp, maybe preferential pushing for favorites. Filter by game and by language.
I agree that something needs to be done to unclutter the subforums, or integrate them more into the main forum. Problem is lately the forum seems to be gog's last concern and until that changes good luck in having anything done about it.

WBGhiro: ?
dtgreene made a very similar post here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/do_you_have_a_bad_pc_worry_not_lowspecgamer_to_the_rescue_lol/post5
My guess is that tinyE is having a little fun pretending to be dtgreene.
EDIT: sorry double post

The idea is fine. The execution is sloppy, much like this whole forum.

rotorde: Maybe I'm in the minority here but I always check the sub-forums before purchasing a game so I would prefer them to stay.
I do too. This is actually precisely why I started this topic: because often I check them and the problem is, checking them isn't useful if there isn't anything in them.

I have 30 or so favourited, and I can see if a new post is made in them (turn white), but if I were to do this for the 200+ games I got, it would not be feasible.

Pajama: Edit: Actually the knowledge contained in the sub-forum can be second to none when needing advice, fixes, etc. and questions are usually answered a lot quicker than in the GD forum.
In, the more active one, definitely. But those make up 10% or so of the games sub forums. Try asking a question in the less active ones (where you get a 1 post/month or so), you'll be lucky if you get a response within days, if ever. Examples:

_ Back when Defenders Quest was dead (it's alive again now thanks to HD updates), I made a few posts. After waiting a few weeks with no replies, I made a post in General Discussion. The replies were within minutes:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/calling_all_defenders_quest_players

_ Sang Froid. Easy question to which anyone who finished the game can provide the answer. No reply in 3 weeks. Because no one visits the forum
https://www.gog.com/forum/sangfroid_tales_of_werwolves/differences_between_brothers

You can find countless such examples in the less frequented subforums.

Pajama: and I would hate to see them no longer available....
Not removed. Just made easier to access and navigate.

Yeah, GOG doesn't have enough active users to support all those game forums, combining them into genre's is a great idea.
Too bad it'll be low priority for GOG.

Seriously though I really like the idea, crazy low chance you'll get a reply in most of them right now.

I hope that you then put the answer in the sub-forum so others that have the same question can find the answer easily in the future. I can understand posting in the General Discussion if you don't get an answer in a timely manner. But it is nice if that information is then made available in the appropriate sub-forum.

Edit: Misplaced word.

I did. Back then the 5-6 threads I made were on the top, and the answers have since been added to them. But until I made the GD thread they were empty.

Also, I added some text to my post above^ while you were typing this.

phaolo: We'd need some kind of optional game subforum notification.
This is actually a good idea. A notification if a new post appears in any of the subforums you optionally subscribed to. As I said, my biggest problem is having to scroll through the hundreds of subforums to see if a post was made in any of them.

Ah, I see and I agree that a thread in the sub-forum is not of much use if there are no answers. I think that you did the right thing. Making a GD thread is definitely justified if no one answers the sub-forum one.
While we're dreaming, what about mirrored posts?

Game-specific forums, and really game-specific, for each game, not some for games, some for series. Then series forums where applicable. Then genre forums. And maybe even company forums. You post in one, you need to select a game (including options for "game currently not in GOG catalog" when posting in a forum that's not game specific, and "not game-specific" when posting in a genre or company forum - probably requiring confirmation to pick one of these, so it won't just be the easy way out) and, unless one of those two additional options is selected, the topic will show up in all relevant forums that game may be covered in, though it'll just be a single thread in the database, so people will be able to see it and read and reply from anywhere.

But lots of things to be done for the forums way before that, and none are, so...

Referencing Dtgreene in another thread. It's a jab at her.
