So, I am looking for games I can play with a SNES controller on gog, especially 1vs1 games or co-op. Metal Slug works great, but La Mulana demans too much buttons. Can we make a list?

Hello, do you mean a 8BitDo SNES wireless controller...? If so, they have the same functions than modern ones, except no analog triggers and any game not using that are playable.

If you mean an original SNES controller it would lack L2 and R2 buttons and then... I don't know, shame GOG mix are screwed because there was some nice list there for your needs. :/
It depends what you mean by playable. (Note that the games I list are all single player, because that's all I play.)

1. Game fully playable with the controller. One example would be Tanglewood, which is really a Sega Genesis game (don't let GOG fool you into thinking it's a PC game; the PC "version" is really just a ROM packaged with an emulator) and therefore only needs as many buttons as a Sega Genesis controller. VVVVVV doesn't have native controller support (IIRC), but with an external program to convert its input into keyboard events it also falls into this category. (I note that VVVVVV is also one game I recommend whenever someone asks for games that can be played with one hand.)

2. Game fully playable except for some non-essential feature. Timespinner would qualify here; there is an item that lets you quickly switch between orb setups without opening the pause menu, but you can still enjoy the game without it, and there are enough buttons on a SNES controller to cover every other need for this game.

3. Game playable except for some infrequently used function which is never required in a time-critical section. I can't think of any examples here, but I would consider such actions as starting, pausing, or quitting the game to qualify here. (Note that I don't count situations where pausing is required to perform certain actions, like in Timespinner.)

4. Game not reasonably playable with just a SNES controller. A game like Owlboy would go here because you need analog sticks to aim, and aiming is needed in time-critical sections. Games in this category are not suitable.

So, games in category 1 are definitely options; those in category 2 or 3 might be, depending on your tolerance for that sort of thing. Games in category 4 are not reasonably playable with a SNES controller.
I played these with my wireless 8bitdo controller (without the analog sticks), which is a spot-on replica of the original SNES controller. You may need a third-party button setup app for some of these though:

Spelunky
Shovel Knight
Volgarr
Rayman Forever
Jazz Jackrabbit 1 + 2
Bit.Trip Runner
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap
Braid
Aladdin
Shantae: Risky's Revenge
A Boy and His Blob
Bio Menace
Aqua Kitty
FlatOut 2 - believe it or not, but the game played way better that way than with keyboard only
Rogue Legacy
Fez
Earthworm Jim 1 + 2

Pretty much any DOS platformer should work without problems as long as you set it up right.

So, I bought the Snes controller (new one, with R1,L1) so that I can play 4 games which I liked, but found too challenging with a keyboard : Teslagrad, Odaluss: Dark Call, Volgar and AM2R.

@koima57 : I'm not looking for Snes games, that would be easy to track down, but rather new games which don't require more than 6 buttons. Example, Sundered works good till you unlock new abilities, at which case you can't play anymore. Skullgirls works awesome, but I'm missing a button or two, Apotheon requires an analog stick. etc.

@dtgreene : I meant out of the box ready to play, I might decide to try out third party software later, but for now I want something simpler.

@Mr.Mumbles :
So that's a good singleplayer list.

I'll try Spelunky next, I didn't think of that.

So what I'm looking for now are nice fighting games for 2pl , because of some reason none of the SNK games work for me, and Skullgirls is fun, but I would like more.

Hmm i have no clue what you bought exactly; mine is this one and it is good for the price (average 35 euros), it has L2 R2, analog sticks, only no analog triggers and requires bluetooth for wireless. https://www.dhresource.com/0x0s/f2-albu-g7-M01-6F-E9-rBVaSVsyCEGAborTAAJNPqGLvh8659.jpg/8bitdo-sn30-pro-sf30-pro-bluetooth-gamepad.jpg

Very similar to mine...https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71x1ccxgAmL._AC_.jpg

Though I use an XboxOne controller on my PC. The 8bitdo is exclusively for my android tablet.

No, I can confirm from experience that it plays great with a USB SNES controller. The only thing you can't have is next AND previous for the weapon and subweapon changes. I just had next weapon set to L and next subweapon set to R and it worked fine.

That's more or less the situation with Timespinner; you can't have both Next and Previous for orb setups, but you can just let Select be next and/or go into the pause menu to change orbs when needed.

By the way, how does Hollow Knight fare in this regard? (I have played a little bit, but haven't gotten even close to the point of learning all the abilities.)
unless there is an adapter for a snes controller to pc than none

There are, it only takes a moment of googling:

There are also extremely good native USB SNES controllers made by a couple of different manufacturers.

I actually ended up getting that on the Switch, but from what I remember it doesn't use the analogue sticks in any way other than to duplicate the d-pad. It does use all the shoulder buttons IIRC though, and it's more than just a quickchange.

Hey, so I got these.

https://www.amazon.fr/iNNEXT-Manette-Controller-Joystick-Raspberry/dp/B01EA7MVTQ/ref=asc_df_B01EA7MVTQ/?tag=googshopfr-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=107718677521&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5591742865380479061&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9055342&hvtargid=pla-178338237850&psc=1

I got it as I said for Teslagrad, and it,s perfect for that. What about some good fighting games, or any ideas how to make it work for King of FIghters?

If a game that claims to have controller support won't pick up on your USB SNES controller it usually means that the game is expecting an Xinput (Xbox) controller. If that's the case, often the easiest solution is to use something like Xpadder to map the controller to keyboard inputs.
I've used my USB SNES style controllers on King of Fighters

IIRC it didn't work well with Battle Princesss Matilda
Thanks everyone.
