I bought Hero's Hour and Songs of Conquest in the recent sale. I know they are both being regularly updated, so I've been watching to see when updates / patches arrive...they haven't.

Apart from checking the "what did just update" thread, and the games in my library, I also use GOG Database.

ON GOG Database it appears that GOG has been receiving updates for these games but they are as yet not applied. Some are several weeks old.

Looking at these links, showing the current download version, and then checking the tabs for "Builds" and "Changelog" you can see the delays.

I don't use Galaxy, so does any Galaxy user have these games? And are you receiving the updates?

Thanks

The updates for both games are in the beta branch. These versions won't be released as offline installers.
Just wait for the next main branch release.

Thanks for the quick reply, Hustlefan. if (and only if) you have the time, could you explain what "beta branch" means and how it affects these things. I know enough to use GOGdb, but probably not enough to understand it. Just curious, not desperate.
Thanks.

Hi bonzer, updates through galaxy are pushed by the developers, so they are way quicker (similar to steam), the offline could take a couple of days if it arrives. With titles that update a lot hey just modify the base installer with the latest update.
I'm aware that this is an unpopular opinion with the old bones, but I recommend you to use Galaxy, it's very practical and you can keep your games up to date quickly, and you can make a back up once it arrive the offline installer. Plus you can unite all your libraries.

GOGs system offers different channels (branches) for developers. The main branch is the one from where the offline installers will be created. Beta branches are available only on Galaxy. Look at the attached screenshot for an example how to select one.

You can check the branch of a build by clicking on the Build ID in the GOG DB "Builds" page. When the branch is "Not set" then it's the main branch.

When it's set to something else then it's a beta or testing branch. Example for the latest Songs of Conquest build:

Just to clarify, this is the “optional” client. Also, if you want rollback for instance you have to use the “optional” client. It’s a bit like saying you can have the “optional” wheels for a car, the car runs without them of course, completely drm free!

Thanks for that Hustlefan. I learned something new today.

Also thanks Ruvika. I like the "principle" of Galaxy and all it can do - when it works. At the moment, it's just one more thing that can go wrong. I read far too many posts about it's practical failings. I would at least consider using it when it is finally finished and working as intended (probably never).

Not sure why you're blaming Galaxy for devs keeping the patch in beta.

I'm not blaming Galaxy for anything (except it's unrelibility). I'm not even blaming devs. Not even complaining. Just curious as to why patches weren't appearing as I (mistakenly) thought they would. As for my opinion on Galaxy, well that's all it is.

I mean, you used this situation as a reason to criticize Galaxy, hence my comment. Galaxy is definitely not perfect, but I don't see how it has any relevance here. Also the website download system is faaaar from perfect as well.

To be honest, it's working perfectly for me, never have a problem and I use since I arrive here more than 2 years ago, it's good :D
