Unsure of the specific details, but heres this from the Steam news post:

"Hey folks, we have some big news.

Frogwares is now the sole publisher of The Sinking City on all platforms, including Steam. We're happy to finally put this whole thing behind us, and we look forward to sharing more news about the future of the franchise down the line.

Now, please read carefully the information below:

We will soon release a new version of The Sinking City that comes with all the latest bug fixes and optimizations as well as a few things to keep in mind:

Due to a number of technical reasons, your old saves won't be compatible with the new version
. Don't worry though, when you launch the game, you will have the option to keep playing the old version
if you want to finish it.
We're keeping the old version only for a limited time. Please, consider finishing your playthrough before February 28, 2024!

We will also release a new DLC, Merciful Madness, but please keep in mind that it will only work with the new version
of the game. If you don't want to replay the game from scratch to access the DLC, you will be able to download the prepared saves that will take you straight to the start of the Merciful Madness quests.

We want to thank you all for your support and patience.
Your Frogwares Team"

So... given that perhaps a GOG release will finally follow (especially given its been DRM Free before).

Edit: GOG version confirmed (thanks Hirako_ for pointing that out) LINK

Having in mind the good relationship between Frogwares and gog, there are a lot of possibilities that this game will be released here. Hope so.

Good to hear. They sound like nice devs.
That's awesome. I'm glad they won their lawsuit!
Watch it gets posted here after a $4 sale on steam. Then jumps back up to $40 for here lol
Hello all,

That's a great new. I remember purchasing the game on Switch when I had the chance to avoid the *other* version but...heh, it's on Switch, couldn't enjoy it on that console for more than ten minutes.

I hope the day I die there'll be some screen recap of all the money I wasted repurchasing games I already own. *Sigh*
Thanks Sachys and Hirako__ for the great news !
Day one buy for me.
Always glad when a dev breaks off from a publisher. Was happy when Stardew broke from Chucklefish, too.

I would say that it very much depends on the publisher. Devolver, Curve and Team 17, for example, got very good reputation for being good publishers. having a good publisher can be very benefitial if you are a small studio and want to focus more on game development than on the buisness side.

Did they though? Doesn't seem that way.

Sounds more like Frogwares paid off the actual & rightful IP holder, Nacon, to give them (Frogwares) the rights to the game.

Seems likely they won the suit since they claimed they weren't paid properly, were suing for damages and to void the publishing contract due to breach. Looks like they got that.
Finally.
