Caesar.: How important would you consider that character for the single player base experience?

I am leaning towards not DRM, more like "free bonus for registering an account with us".
He's a third of the base playable characters and each plays slightly differently. He's featured as the second character on character selection.

In that case it would depend on whether or not it's being advertised as part of the sale on the store page

Good point. There doesn't seem to be any mention of the number of playable characters in the store page (other than the "Multiplayer notice" they added).
You guys are WRONG. GOG is committed to DRM-Free. As long as it is convenient for them.
Plenty of GOG games have their multiplayer aspects gated behind DRM. This is nothing new or unique to the game mentioned in the OP. DRM in multiplayer is "par for the course" even on GOG.
I also heard that Dying Light had something similar to this.

Why do you have to register online accounts to access single player components? More chances to capture revenue via advertising or something?

Which is fine, understandable even, locking singleplayer content behind account creation is not the same.
I wonder if GOG knew about this. It would be nice if we'd have a comment on the issue. I also would prefer if this would be patched out, even though I own Hybrid Wars, by the time I get to play it, Wargaming or GOG itself might not exist anymore.
