If I were to buy one Setters game, which would be the best choice for my first one?

Settlers 2 10th and Settlers 3 Ultimate both look good and I missed the Newletters for the Settlers disocunt, so #4 is out.

I only want to get one, but can't decide lol.

Any HLTB shows 600+ hours for #3 completionist. Sounds like a lot of replayability on that one.

Settlers 2. 3 does away with roads, which is half the fun. It's still OK, and I finished the campaigns, but it's not 600 hours or even close. I could see 60, maybe. It does have random maps, but if you're going to count that, then the true number is infinity, not 600.

3 & 4 do away with the roads, 2 still has them, just like the original Settlers...

Yes, that's what I said (though I didn't mention 4...it's basically the same as 3, with some tweaks).
In my case the road took a different path, played only 3&4 and both are fantastic games.
Definitely would recommend starting with Settlers 2 ! Imho the truest Settler experience and also quite accessible. Decent lenghth as well.
I have always prefrred Settler 2: 10th Ann. It improve the formula from the first settlers game, and the 10th Ann. edition is just more playable than the original Settlers 2 (QoL, graphics etc).

Getting into 3 and onwards, they are also great games, but they are starting to depart a little from 1 and 2.
I'd go with Settlers 2 10th Anniversary. It's a classic with updated graphics, and the gameplay is super solid.
Settlers 5! ... What? =P It actually is a decent game, it just should never have been part of the franchise. *shrug*

My preference would be Settler 2 10th anniversary. The campaign alone is quite nice. I will never forget how i lost the competition ..... against my mother no less... She would probably beat me in a soul like completion too. E.G. you do need some determination of sorts to finish in the campaign.

I bought the remastered versions of all settler games from the ubistore and all of them are acceptable

Thank you everyone!

It seems most everyone is saying The Settlers® 2: 10th Anniversary is the way to go and the others are not bad themselves.

I can only mark one post, but I appreciate all the replies. :)

I'm sure in the future I'll try the others out one by one.

Also, @Zimerius, my mom is over 80 and I still consider her smarter than me haha. Wouldn't bet against her in most contests of the mind (or soul; if you mean by spirit and determination and not some nimble action). :)
