My very first self build rig was awesome, and there is simply NO WAY I would've succeeded if it hadn't been for the tons of help I got here at these forums. Not long after that, I built another (a second) rig (one for my room and one for my "man cave") and that one I managed on my own.

But that was several years ago (2013???? maybe even 2012 I dunno) I lost both of those rigs and am now almost completely decided that I will build one final rig... the last rig I'll ever need... and was wondering if this is still the place to get help from if I need it??? Don't want to start until I'm sure I have somewhere that I can post questions that come up and get relatively quick answers. I haven't settled on the parts yet, but, my family being as awesome to me as they always are, when I do the parts are going to be.... A.W.E.S.O.M.E. So I don't want to screw it up. LOL.

So if I come back in a couple of weeks saying I'm ready to build is there anyone here that might be available to help out a moron do a self build again?
you can ask, Ive built several of my own systems, as to your "last rig" I doubt that as the technology jumps about every 4 years. frist decide if you want a laptop or a desktop. then move onto what video card you want to have, by that I mean Nvidia or AMD and the rest of the system will simply fall into place as X,Y Z mother board take this video card while A,B C take that one.

Video cards for gamers should have at minimum 2g memory mid line 4g and top of the line 8+ your looking from 40$ to 10K $ for the video card alone.
look at the requirements of the last 3 games you are interested in, think about going at least 1 step above the recommended systems. Like Elex is

MINIMUM:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i5 3570, AMD FX-6350
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB, AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 35 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible Sound card

RECOMMENDED:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790, AMD FX-8350
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB, AMD RX 480 4GB
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 35 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible Sound card

Newegg is a great resource to see how much a computer component is going for.

If you would like a template for a most excellent computer, I could recommend the one I built for myself. It's been over a year now, but performance-wise it's still absolutely top of the line. This is mostly because several of the parts were bought the day they came out.

It the vast majority of games pretty much never drop below 60 fps at 2560x1440 with all the graphical settings maxed out.

Hope it helps! =)

I think that's a definite 'yes'. There are a number of people on here that find computer building to be just plain fun. I'm sure you'll get more help than you could possibly need. :)

software and hardware are two areas of expertise... I can tell you how to build a 100mbps network and computers, but I have about zero expertise in writing mods, not that I'm not willing to learn mind you...

I can only assume the directions begin, "Go back in time to 1997..." ;)

Problem is the advice I give is usually wrong. Other than that though, yeah.

Two things,I have never done or contemplated is building a PC or a car mechanic.I prefer to pay top dollar for the best trusted builder/service and the only drawback is it just takes a while to find those experts. As for modding,it is interesting and very very time consuming.

I feel exactly the same way about cars. That's why I just take mine to the dealership and have them do whatever it is they do. Computer-wise, though, I do enjoy tinkering. =)

You need to find a great and trusted mechanic as dealerships are absolute ripoffs.I order my PC's with the specs I wan't and as long as they make it that way,I'm happy to pay through the nose:)

When a new car comes out the mechanics outside the dealership won't even have a chance to see it for a few years. Only when those cars are resold and bought as used will they trickle down to non-dealership shops. I also feel like quite a few of these shops are scam artists of the highest caliber. If they so much as suspect that you might not be very knowledgeable, they'll cheat you out of as much money as they possibly can, because that's pure profit for them. So far I have never once had a problem getting my car serviced at either Mercedes or Lexus dealerships, didn't feel cheated, and didn't feel overcharged. But, yea, that's just my experience, I realize that one's mileage may vary.

Sure, new cars are looked after. It's called warranty, but they will still rip.As long as you are happy then, good luck.
