clarry: Diablo and Diablo 2 have arguably less DRM than many of the "diablo clones" sold here.
DRM here? On Gog?

I'm not going to argue about it because it's beating a dead horse and completely nonproductive.

But I'm telling you that I can make a copy of my copy of Diablo 2, put it on another computer, and then I can play it together with somebdy, without ever hitting a third party server or other mechanism that could deny us the priviledge.

That is not the case with many GOG games. It will not work.

I completely agree. Some games were built with drm at is core (like never winter nights) so it's nearly I.possibke to get rid of it entirely.

I do enjoy drm-free single and multiplayer. I was just playing darkstone with my kids using ny one gog copy. I can't do that with Nevermind rights (and several others)

I have a hunch that it'd be quite easy to remove. Actually if I had some extra time right now, maybe I'd try to do just that. AIUI the only CD key checks in NWN are client-side as the master server (if it still exists?) no longer cares since years ago.

EDIT: of course I could never remove it from servers that run retail copies. But it might be quite easy to create a DRM free binary for those who want one.

Steam. It destroyed the PC market as far as my interests are concerned. And I experienced it first-hand with Half-Life 2...

Someone said HL2 ruined story telling and looking back I'm inclined to agree.
Not scariest but most certainly unusually annoying DRM I've met in my life was with Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Well, I bought a legal game in CD-jewel case, installed it on my PC and... the game told me that I will not play it no matter what and the only possible way is to connect to the internet and create an account on Steam, then authorize it there, wait for a patch download or something and only after that play it.
I was PISSED to the core of my balls! Why the hell I bought a game on physical CD if I can't run it???

My retail version of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic runs without any Steam account, I guess they added it later just like they did with Morrowind GOTY where the older version doesn't have Steamworks while the new one has.

Agreed. Steam did make me stop buying PC games for years (since physical discs were infected too and there was no point getting those anymore) until I found GOG, Humble Bundle and the Indies.

How odd, because I also bough a retail Morrowind GOTY and it was completely free of anytihng else, there was some kind of disc check/protection tool but no external client requirements such as Steam. Just in case both games were bought in Russia. Morrowing GOTY was available on 2003 and Dark Messiah on 2006, with Half-Life 2 and Steam somewhere in between.
Facebooks, Twitters, etc.

I heard some employers demand your social accounts addresses.
Kinda sucks when you die out of hunger because you said something in FB, Twitter about Hillary Clinton. :/

Make a junk social account & leave it almost blank.
That way, you've given them what they shouldn't even be asking for & when they ask why it's almost blank & un-used, say you've no interest in learning what some fool had for dinner ;)
GFWL i was scared for life trying to play and complete fallout 3 using it.

just to explain in detail , whenever the gfwl found a patch it started downloading it , there is no way to stop the download nor does it show how much is completed.

had to change the password for the live account almost every week cause some Nigerian dude would try to login and the attempt gets blocked, which of course meant i had to change the login in gfwl client/ In game again or else the saves would go away.

I had to uninstall the game for a while and getting it to run again was a nightmare , i had to try like 3 versions of gfwl to finally get it to work. When it did run the saves were gone :X

Steam.

Because it causes the vast unwashed masses to accept DRM as "not a problem". That is far scarier than any other.

It uses the cd key to recognize the characters. It's all tied together. If a random several trillion-combinations keys were assigned upon startup, then I would imagine it wouldn't need it.
