The original Resident Evil 4 is casualized to appeal to action-bros enough as it is; I shudder to think what a remake would be like. So I don't feel I'm missing much. I would like the originals and the remakes of 1 and 0 here though, or on a DRM-free platform.

BreOl72: Why would I expect RE 4 to come here, when none of the other RE games is here?
Granted, this is a different DRM-loving Japanese game publisher, but we did get Silent Hill 4 despite not having any of the others. *shrugs*

Lone_Scout: You have The Evil Within, it is basically RE4 well done,

Ancient-Red-Dragon: If you are talking about The Evil Within 1, then that game sucks very badly in terms of gameplay, and GOG also has the very bad version of it too. No way it's on par with any RE game, past or present.
In terms of Resident Evil-type (not necessarily 4) in general, what do you think about Daymare 1998, Song of Horror, and Tormented Souls? All three of those are available here on GOG in DRM-free form.

mrkgnao: I have RE 0 through 7 on steam (incl. the older 4, not the new remake) and they are all DRM-free. Given that the RE 2-3 remakes are now DRM-free, I expect RE 4 will follow in a couple of years. I'm in no rush.
They are not DRM free on Steam. They all use Steamworks (require Steam) they have all just had Denuvo removed.

I have never installed the steam client.

Any non-DRM steam client requirement can be easily avoided by replacing the steam API dll with the Goldberg dll

Well I dont know what to say but I do know they use Steamworks as they call the steam_api64.dll.

I also just tried it with 7 and with Steam it runs, if I rename the Steam folder the game doesn't launch.

I know that but having to do that means they are not DRM free as you originally said otherwise you wouldn't need to remove the DRM.

It's not DRM. The application just assumes that everyone uses the client, so doesn't allow for client absence. The Goldberg dll clearly states that it has nothing to do with DRM and will not bypass DRM.

We must have been a different game then, since RE4 is probably among harder RE games, at least compared to previous games in the series.
Never played both of them. But ofc i want to try :/

1, 2 and 3 remakes are some of my favorite games of all time.

They are not DRM-free. Please don't pass off your goldberg-dll-procedure as a definition of Steams DRM-freedom. If you can't play a game without the client after downloading (beside some steam_appid.txt or commandline parameters) they are not DRM-free. All threads and wikis (List of DRM-free games on steam, PCGW) out there agree on that definition.

The only DRM-free RE game in the common sense was the RE 2 Remake, but only until a specific patch added client requirement.

If that's your definition then ok but I find your defending Steam as drm-free platform ridiculous. At this point what stops you from cracking drm-ed games and praising how drm-free they're?

Now let's try to imagine what would happen if GOG "assumed" such thing about galaxy. I'm sure everyone here would be very understanding of how it's not drm, after all you just have to replace dll file to be able to play.

Since there are zero Resident Evil games here I don't think anyone was expecting it.

My apologies for lack of clarity...I wasn't really referring to difficulty, so much as the action-heavy focus of the game. Certainly, RE games were always more action-heavy than, say, Silent Hill. But RE4 seems to really push things so far in that direction while scaling back horror, imo. Action games can be extremely difficult, so my criticism was really only in reference to the genre switch not the difficulty. That said, and my memory may be fuzzy as it would be going back a long time now, I found RE4 pretty easy at least in the Village portion. It seems to me that the knife+kick stunned enemy technique is ridiculously overpowered since it deals with enemies efficiently while ultimately disposing of them and saves ammo...I can't think of an analogue from earlier games. But I don't mean to get too far off track here :)
[Sad] GOG will never sell physical Lego.
