MY FIX:
I simply had to reinstall Windows 7.
I think the problem was that I switched motherboards, and the old motherboard's LAN driver conflicted with the new ones in a strange way because they were both RealTek LAN drivers, but slightly different.

This is continued from here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/crusaders_of_might_and_magic/running_game_causes_router_to_lose_connection_to_internet/page1

I'm on my desktop connected through a wired ethernet connection. I have no idea what's going on, but whenever I simply start some GOG games, it will shutdown my internet. It takes about 3 minutes for it to do so, and it does so every single time (depending on the game), no exception. Anyone else have this problem? I thought it may have something to do with GOG Galaxy.

The games that cause router to lose connection every time:
- Crusader of Might and Magic
- UT 99 GOTY
- Serious Sam: The First Encounter

Games that don't:
- Shadow Warrior 2

I've tried running it without GOG Galaxy, but the same problem exists. I also block these games with my firewall (TinyWall). I know it's the router being affected because no computer or tablet/phone is able to connect to the internet, whether wired or through WiFi.

When I try to run these games my router evidently loses its IP address. I've played Shadow Warrior 2 for hours on end and this never happened, though. Another thing that happens with the games that shut down my router is when I run the shortcut or the exe, the game doesn't pop up. So I have to go to the task manager and shut down the game's process. Then when I try to run the game again it runs normally.

To start the internet back up I have to restart my computer (if I don't it will simply shut down the router connection to the internet again), and then I shut off the router, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

Out of curiosity, what model is your router? And why do I get the feeling it's over a decade old and has never had the firmware updated?
Not gog games, more like any game using the router causes an issue.

You need to list your router and its firmware version. Highly unlikely, it's anything game specific.

Played those previously (UT 99 GOTY, Serious Sam: The First Encounter), no issues at all on my side.
It's a Pace 5168NV-110
Hardware version: 2701-000890-005
Software version: 10.5.6.529711-att
It was first used in 2014. We got it with ATT Uverse.

I don't doubt that it works for others, but it shuts down my router's access to the internet when running the games I mentioned.

EDIT: Also, I've read the firmware is carrier managed and can't be downloaded directly.

I used to have a cable modem that would hang if you opened too many connections at once. This happened in some games when you went to browse multiplayer servers, as the game would first download the list of servers from the master server, then open up dozens or hundreds of connections to query each server about its status.

It never got a fix..

If I were you I'd try another computer (laptop?) just to make sure it's actually the router and not the PC. It shouldn't be necessary to restart the PC if it's the router that's crapping out. I'd be very surprised if these games would make both the PC and the router crap out simultaneously and consistently.

That is your modem, though it also appears to function as a router as well. Modem/Router combos tend to be wonderfully useless in diagnostics. Is there a smaller device nearby it wires into?
Yep,had the same problem and always wondered about that.It only lasts a couple of seconds but it does happen.

Darvond: why do I get the feeling
That you are trolling.

First off, thanks for the replies.

So I'll try out these games on a couple other computers and see what happens. Also I'll look at the router log.

I don't remember where, but I read somewhere that the router/modem can get too many request (or something) and cause something like a seg fault? Don't know for sure. I wish I could find that page again.

I know it sounds like it's not nessecary to restart the PC, but if I don't whatever is causing the connection to fail will continue to do so until I restart.

Nah, it a modem/router combo. It has firewall, port forwarding, multiple port on the back, the whole bit.
Here's the error output. Again, it took about 3 minutes from the starting of the game (Serious Sam: TFE in this case) to the time the internet went out.
