I have played 7-10 and they are great. This game ROTK 4 for Ps1 is great but I dont know what to do.

I know how to draft troops and train them, how to use plots. What I dont know is how to use market and what to do with enhancing/making people happy of town.

Also-Whats a good amount of troops to take down a 1 city civilization?

Whats a good amount of officers that are skilled ? I have 3

In the older RTKs, you can simply give food to the populace and they will be happy. Of course you'll need those food in battles so check on your stockpile.

Take down a single province? Depends strongly on what officers you bring really. RTK has a strong focus on officers and generals and their abilities. If you bring generals with good martial ability, the whole unit under him will have a great attack and defense. You have research and construction to bring better units into the field like crossbow units and eventually catapults for sieging cities.
I played as Liu Bei in scenario 4, the one where he has a single province Xinye and you face a huge Cao Cao empire to the west and north. I used a single officer to destroy his entire southern army and take the south central capital of Xiangyang. That officer is a famous military advisor in real history named Zhuge Liang, chief advisor to Liu Bei who has helped him forge a western empire in the Three Kingdoms era. In RTKIV, Zhuge Liang has the ability to change wind direction as well as weather. I simply start by setting the grass on fire, changing the weather to clear and changing the wind direction to where the enemy troops are all gathered. The enemy troops essentially burned to death before reaching me.

3 is really not enough. Search and recruit more. Try to get more good officers so you can get more stuff done. There's no limit to the number of officers you can have. If you're playing on historical mode and know about the history of the Three Kingdoms, you'll know that some officers are destined to the particular ruler like Zhang Fei and Guan Yu is to Liu Bei, they will be much harder to recruit if you're using another ruler.

It's been too long for me to remember to help you, but here is a good FAQ someone wrote: http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/588631-romance-of-the-three-kingdoms-iv-wall-of-fire/faqs/19475

Have you tried NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION: Sphere of Influence? It's about Japan instead of China, but the same premise as the Rotk series.

I've played most of KOEI's old games except Nobunaga's Ambition. No interest in Japanese history :)
I've also played Genghis Khan 2, very different from the RTK series and you attempt to conquer the world instead of just one country. Many different units across the world as well. And you can plunder villages for resources and mate for offspring, kinda like an early version of Crusader Kings. Very unique.

I have not tried Genghis Khan 2, but it sounds like something I would really like. Will have to see if I can come up with a copy of it. Thanks for the heads up :)

Rotk 7-10 are great. 10 is best, then comes 7, then 8, then 9. I like the ones where you can play just 1 char like an rpg. The 9th is great though. I read the Water Margin book but not the game. I also read Rotk 3 times and can go through 100 pages in an hour.

I love the stories.

I then bought Nobunaga Rise to Power and it was awful. It was real time and it was morbidly unforgiving. These games just have to have combat in turnbased. Im sure Sphere of influence is awful as well if in real time. I liked what they did in nobunaga but when I attack in combat I have maxed out stats in leadership and power and my troops just die while the enemies troops stay the same.

There are also as mentioned Genghis Khan 1 and 2 for Genesis

As well as Bandit Kings of Ancient China (Water Margin) Which probably is just as good as Rotk as it is roleplaying and strategy like rotk. It was awesome too as the characters are funny and badass.

And there is Liberty or Death which is an american based revolutionary turnbased strategy like rotk with badasses like George Washington and others.

And there is the World war 2 turnbased strategy with rotk in mind for genesis. This one has characters like Patton and MacArthur and Stalin, Hitler.

L'Empeire is for Genesis or Nintendo too which is with Rotk in mind except Napoleon Bonaparte and the other characters he fought with and against.

I prefer chinese history and the other civilizations listed except japanese history as well.

No interest in the only one you can actually buy atm?

It's the only one I could play for more than a few hours.
I couldn't help much since i just played the series from 8 to 11, but as far i concerned and cw8 said. 3 officers isn't enough. I think you should have to recruit more officers, maybe there's a specific skill requirement. I assume you're played as Liu Bei's forces by 3 officers?

Perhaps you should prepared a weapon units such a ram, catapult, arbalest to weaken castle walls. a few range unit bow/crossbow/horsebow to distract or attack unit inside the castle lastly melee unit such infantry or cavalry if enemies decided to face against you in front of castle and placed officers with highest War (usually this kind officer trigger a duel more often, a good part of it if your officer wind the duel they can capture the enemy officer and troops tend to retreat also lowering other enemies troops morale) or Leadership on it.

I haven't read the actual novel myself, a friend of mine gave me summaries book instead.

Did you played RTK Maker ? it's a Steam game, KOEI's just released about a week ago. unfortunately there is no English text option on it so I have no idea how I am suppose to play.

I'm not certain if they're will gave English version but I heard another news that upcoming RTK 13 already added/listed on Steamdb and yeah it had English version on the list.

If it true, that would be nice and hope it going to be great as RTK 10 or even better.
