A bit more of information regarding The Bard's Tale Trilogy:

According to the page www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Bard%27s_Tale_(2005), the collection includes, besides the Apple IIgs version (the .2mg files, compatible with MESS and KEGS), also the Apple II version (the .dsk file), which should be compatible with emulators like AppleWin (which works nice with Wine, at least on Linux). And both the .2mg and .dsk files are generated in the location of the configuration file when the game is started for the first time, according to the page.

Why isn't The Last Blade 2 listed as compatible? Grabbing the neogeo.zip BIOS from any of the other SNK Neo Geo releases works just fine with the extracted ROM.

P.S.: I have also been unable to get ART OF FIGHTING 2 working with fbneo, as it seems the ROM GOG ships is not the expected (later) patched version of the game.

Did you try FB Alpha 2012 Neo Geo?
I have a copy of the ROM from Humble Bundle (MD5 15dd2d89534ea96ea5e016d59210ed65), taken from the Linux installer distributed by them, and this emulator (Retroarch version) loaded it fine.

Also make sure you have the file neogeo.zip that comes with the game in the same folder as the ROM.

And I vaguely remember the ROMs from the Windows installers being modified in some games, making them not work in usual emulators. Something to keep in mind too. And you can extract the files from the Linux installer from GOG with unzip (Linux) and 7-Zip (Windows); unsure about Mac.

Thanks for reporting.
Every game listed at #1 were confirmed by at least one person who ran the ROM successfully.
I added The Last Blade 2 to #1 with the warning message: (Needs neogeo.zip from other games)
I haven't read the 9 pages of this thread but... I'm pretty sure ALL ROM based GOG games are compatible with third party emulators. Because they already use third-party emulators to begin with. GOG didn't write their own emulators, they just wrapped 3rd party emulator+ROM in an installer.

If you want to play a ROM game with the emulator of your choice, just take the ROM that's packaged inside the the GOG game, because GOG only made a front-end.

Alright, that make sense. I expect there to be a way to get even GOG's version of ART OF FIGHTING 2 running in some other emulator.

It's not just that, one also has to extract the ROM using the scripts you've provided in the link I've quoted. But doing that and using the packed neogeo.zip BIOS from another Neo Geo SNK release worked perfectly.

There are situations where certain games do not ship with the original ROM and it has to be extracted/reconstructed using methods described in this thread. Also, there's no way of knowing which games ship with a ROM since GOG does not tag them in any way... this thread addresses the problem by providing a list of such games.

WinterSnowfall: ...GOG's version of ART OF FIGHTING 2 running in some other emulator.
If you care about censorship, you should consider using the ROMs from the older version. That and Baseball Stars II were both censored to remove references to Taiwan and uhhh... I don't remember if there's anything else.
Hmmm... I guess I missed this post earlier.

No, I admit I did not do that yet. Might give it a shot at some point.

Edit: Thanks for the tip - it worked with fbalpha2012 :).

I know the drill, I literally have every other Neo Geo game GOG is selling up and running :P, it's just ART OF FIGHTING 2 that's giving me any issues at the moment...

That is indeed true for most other tiles, but in the case of GOG's ART OF FIGHTING 2 build the Linux and Windows ROM files are identical... and both don't work with the latest fbneo.

Interesting detail, thanks for mentioning... it's not that I don't want to use the original, but I can't seem to get it working under retropie, as it expects the patched version.

Found an article but there might be better ones.

"Neo Geo fans on Reddit spotted the peculiar changes to Baseball Stars 2 last week, and looked for other instances where Chinese censorship might have altered SNK games in current release. One example cited is Art of Fighting 2, where the Japanese “Rising Sun” flag in the background has been replaced with a generic banner. The Rising Sun flag, as a symbol of imperialist Japan, is offensive in much of East Asia, and particularly China and South Korea."

Tunnel B1 has (Besides an Emulated Dos Version) an Emulated PSX version aswell. You can download it from the Extra's:

It's a .zip file (console .zip) with the emulated PSX version in it.

In the directory of this emulated PSX version, there is a folder called "game".

This folder has 15 "Tunnel B1 (USA) (Track ... ) .bin" files (Track 01 - Track 15) and a "Tunnel B1 (USA) .cue" file in it.

Glover has (Besides the PC Port) an Emulated PSX Version aswell. You can download it from the Extra's:

It's a .zip file called "glover_psone_version .zip"

In the zip file, there is a folder called "glover_psone_version". This folder does include the directory of Emulated PSX version.

In the directory of this emulated PSX version, there is a folder called "res"

This folder has a "Glover (USA) .bin" file and a "Game .cue" file in it.

* I can confirm that the Steam release has even more Roms. There are some N64 Prototypes of Glover and there are 2 N64 Prototypes of Glover 2.

I hope that Piko Interactive will include them in the GOG Release aswell.

So are all the Negeo titles on GOG the ones with the ROM directly in the install dir and NOT the Dotemu releases that require the extraction script? That's odd given that there's some titles on GOG that also have Dotemu ports (e.g on Steam and I *think* Humble Bundle are the same as Steam).

The versions Prime gave away recently were a mixture of Dotemu and the 'accessible ROM' versions.

RE. Art of Fighting 2, I got that on Prime and it works in FBNeo.

Does anyone know why Raiden FIghters doesn't work from the Raiden Legacy collection but all the others do? I tried lots of different cores.

EDIT: To answer my own question - there aren't multiple versions of the same Neogeo games. They're all Dotemu, some of them with the ROM in a zip in the install dir, the others require the dotemu2mame.js script to extract (they all work fine fwiw).

Just dropped by to mention that Retro Classix: Express Raider also contains a ROM file for...
Shootout. I'm not sure if this is intentional (perhaps it's added as a bonus), but it's not mentioned anywhere on the game page. Was surprised to see you get 2 games in 1 package :). Both ROMs are playable in MAME.

The data included in the Raiden Legacy collection is insufficient to rebuild the original ROM for Raiden FIghters, looks like. But you can get it elsewhere and play it with MAME, just FYI.

P.S.: Since this list is no longer maintained, I've created a new one here.

I think you should try SNES9x. ROMs are very compatible and work stable on this emulator.
