I don't do these threads, but this guy was the front man for one of my favorite bands: The Tragically Hip. He was taken by incurable brain cancer last night. At only 53. Not sure if anyone outside Canada knows who he is, but he's a true icon here. Sad news. RIP, Wicapi Omani. You will be missed.
I won't pretend to be a big fan, I think I only know one song of theirs, but it's one I'm very fond of - Ahead by a Century - so I'm still sad to hear the news.
"You're going to miss me
Wait and you'll see
Fully and completely"

So many great concerts. So many great memories. The Hip are pretty much the soundtrack of my adult life.

Oh no, :(
RIP :-/
Oh man... I knew this was coming but still wasn't prepared. This is a tremendous loss for Canada, and for the world of music at large. While the great Canadian band The Tragically Hip was not really known well at all outside of Canada, they are without a doubt one of the best and most well recognized bands inside of Canada, and are about as Canadian as they come.

Today is a very sad day.

For those unfamiliar with The Tragically Hip, here are a few select classic songs from their catalogue for your enjoyment:

Nautical Disaster
Little Bones
New Orleans Is Sinking
Locked In The Trunk Of A Car

One interesting piece of fun trivia is that Gord Downie wrote down random things he heard other people saying from fragments of conversations etc. in a bar and said he would turn it into a hit song. That song became Little Bones which did become a hit song which is amusing as it is basically nonsense lyrics. :)

Gord and band were brilliant and he will be very much missed by Canadians everywhere. RIP Gord.
