I stopped following his solo stuff after Carry On
(which was...not very good). Did his later stuff get better again?
Songbook is a live compilation of just him and an acoustic guitar on stage. Various venues, many different songs - some cover tunes (Led Zep, Beatles, etc), some Soundgarden, etc. I quite like it. Higher Truth is an acoustic offering as well, and there are a number of good tunes there (probably the most well-recognized would be Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart
). My wife loves this album. All in all, I feel it's a pretty solid effort.
Don't know anything about Scream though, as I don't have that one.
Based on the one track I heard from Scream
when it was new, and one or two fairly negative mentions about the album, and considering how underwhelming his previous solo release was, I never even bothered to look up Scream
. I just heard that he was trying to eschew typical hard rock sounds on that one.
Thanks for the opinions on the more recent albums. Maybe I'll finally look into them.
