rtcvb32: I'd like to see a single bundle with all commonly used libraries, redistribution, drivers, etc. Then you only download it once.

It would also shrink some games down considerably. I remember a 120Mb game where 100Mb was the DirectX files...

GameRager: I believe someone made an unofficial installer for all most commonly needed dependencies....I forget the name, though.
But if it's still packaged in the GoG installers, what's the point?

It's for people who use old/original installers....also don't the gog installers check to see if it's installed first(the extra files) and skip them if they are already installed?

If so then the only downside of gog packaging some of them with their games is a tiny bit(maybe 100 Mb-200Mb, or less) of extra DL usage.
(Which would mostly only matter the most to those with DL caps or slow connections)

If you have 1000 games with 200Mb of dependencies per game...

That could be overkill but no less real.

True, but that's also on that person a bit for buying so many games. ;)

I have 800+ games here. It wasn't very hard. And this was 3+ years ago.

All i want is common dependencies to be separated and not included with the game installer.

Assume you need to install the redistros for x86/x64 for all the VisualC++ and DirectX, and DosBox, SDL, libpng zlib and a few other items. That could be omitted from every game, except when a specific version of the library/program is the only one that works (for some odd reason). Also dependencies for games that forget them and re-finalizing the installer isn't possible (i know a game or two that requires special external libs to work).

If i can i like removing redundancies as much as possible. It may seem like a small amount, but after a while you see multiple gigs of space saved. When you can save multiple DVD's worth of space, it really needs considering.

Sorry for not being clear....I meant people should DL them as they buy them and archive such, that way they don't have to DL massive amounts all at once.

They cannot do that, though(afaik), if they want to maintain their "works out of the box"(for most people) promise.

Also seeing as they aren't included with every game and the dependencies are small/many have unlimited DLs/fast speeds I don't see why this would be a big problem for most(though I can see why it'd be annoying for some).

Which ones?

Multiple gigs, yes, but on drives that can be many TB in size.....unless someone has metered internet or very limited space it shouldn't be much of a problem(space wise).

(Although I can understand the desire to control such on one's system)
Every six weeks I'm on alert shift for one week, where I have to be able to react during weekends and even at nights.

The thing is, I get well paid for those alert weeks, even if there are no alerts or customer calls (and even more extra if there are). Not all our customers are eligible for such support, the Basic support is Mon-Fri from 8 to 16. The customers pay more for extended support.

As it happens, I have such week during Christmas. No matter, it isn't like we are going to travel then anyway, we are celebrating at home and I just have to have my phone on, and be ready to go online with my laptop. In the worst case, I'd have to drive to my workplace, but that like never happens. 99% of alerts can be fixed from home.

1st bit: Nice 2nd bit: They still make some people PAY for weekend support? That sucks a bit, I guess, though I can see why some companies might do it(to pay for people like you to be available to do said work/etc). :)

Sounds good & I hope you can have a fun holiday regardless. :)

Really? I hope that isn't for win10 as that game is in my backlog(The first game works well enough, though). :\
