Okay, there's a number of people I want removed from the list of contacts ("People") on my phone, an HTC Desire 620. In case of contacts that I added manually through the phone I have a simple "delete contact" option, fair enough. The problem is that in case of the vast majority of contacts on my phone, probably all the ones imported from messengers etc., that option is absent.

Now, some of the contacts were imported from Skype. Deleting them from my contact list on Skype or deleting the Skype group from "groups" didn't do the trick. However, they finally disappeared when after deleting them from my Skype contact list I also launched Skype at least once on my phone. Good.

However, I'm still left with a number of undesired contacts who are neither from Skype nor Google Contacts (I did log into contacts.google.com, which I actually didn't know was a thing until today, and they aren't listed there). I also don't think that they are from Facebook as they aren't among my Facebook friends (a few of them were but not anymore). Another option would be that they were imported from WhatsApp, which I briefly used on my last phone, but the thing is that I've never had WhatsApp installed on this phone.

So, any other idea where the contacts may be from and/or how to remove them?

Open Settings on your Android phone/tablet.
Go to the Applications section. Further, select the "All" tab to list down all apps (all apps include system apps, one of which we need to tinker.)
Scroll down the list, which should be sorted alphabetically, to find the app named "Contacts Storage".
Tap on the app once to open its details.
Tap the clear data options.
Tap OK on the warning message that pops up on your screen. This will clear all your contacts from your phone.

That's totally not what I want to achieve. I want to get rid of specific contacts without losing all the ones i still need.

And the ones you want are not synced to an online service?
Go into your contacts.
Settings>Contacts>Contacts to Display

That should show you where the contacts may be coming from. Try hiding some depending on service/app and once you find out where they originated from you can go from there.

At least that's how it works on my phone. Hopefully you have something similar.
