GR00T: it's funny you of all people should view it as an 'honor' system - something that's only as good as the honorable nature of the people utilizing the system itself.

After getting a raw deal a few times I began regarding it as a 'Take one for the team' kinda 'Honor' system

liquidsnakehpks: I have had no issues adopting to digital embraced both gog and steam around the same time.

Although i do remember those hilarious threads you made before like saying "steam keeps asking for my login info every time " after that you would mention you would wipe out all cookies and what not haha.

Have you changed or do we still get crazy posts like that ?

That wasn't me

I was the guy trying to get games like Dragon Age to run on a single-core non-SSE system from 2003
you should learn to lie better or get a better memory

avatarcarnival73: Thanks for the information. I think Steam Gaurd has become more anal about me cleaning out my Steam folder files.

I've just updated to 64-bit and it seems a file was wiped that Steam Guard was using to identify me. Last time this happened was when doing a Steam folder cleaning like I do every so often (toss all files and folders but 'Common', 'User' and 'Steam.exe' )

liquidsnakehpks: why would you even bother cleaning steam folders ? just let the steam folder be intact ? i made a separate drive and put steam folder on it separately not to risk screwing it up specially anything related to vac

.
Folders within the Steam directory get clogged after awhile so it's good to do a once-a-month sweep. apparently Valve has just implemented a command that can be ran from a normal browser like IE or Fox which will refresh Steam as well.

Ah! Now I remember - One of the files in one of Steam cache folder kept you subscribed to Guard; trashing it resulted in a seven day stand off for trading.

Nowadays the cache folder I was cleaning has been divied up into two different areas and that particular file is no longer stored in there

Around the time I was asking that question in various forums I was given the name of the file to avoid (I've forgotten it again but only do a full sweep every several months now.)

At the time I had less hardware resources so the cleaning I was doing kept the Steam client running smoothly

carnival73: Developers may or may not sell you a functional game

Digi sites might shut down along with your extensive library (Desura)
Desura downloads are actually working again (from time to time anyway).

I'm not so burned by developers selling incomplete games, but I'm really disappointed by developers not even getting the game together they promised in their Kickstarter campaign.

Sure, I have gotten maybe half of the games I backed, but if memory serves, only one (1) of them came out exactly as promised, within schedule and with no major design changes (such as going episodic or whatever). The other half, well, maybe I was ripped off, maybe I wasn't, only time (lots of it) will tell.

When buying digital downloads which are at least 1-2 months old, I haven't had any major problems, even the smaller ones were fixable. I was really disappointed by DotEmu shutting down though, but at least they gave a warning well ahead of time.

Ouch. That's a pretty crappy track record. You must be pissed off.

I've been lucky and had all games I've backed delivered without any major changes/shenanigans (other than some delays) except for one. That one I'm not sure will ever be delivered. There was another one that received an update on Steam (a major overhaul of the game including graphics, performance, and some game features) that was given to Steam customers for free. But those of us that redeemed the DRM-free version on Humble got nothing but empty assurances that they'd get the updated game to us as well. Never happened. Overall though, I've had great luck with my Kickstarter games.

Thanks for the info...I knew they were starting up again but never received a mail when they did
Figured the site took one more final dive to hell.

I got in there once, grabbed half of them and now when I try to get back in again the Collection page
keeps loading and loading saying something like 'Play Time begins shortly'
I had games on Direct2Drive, Steam, Desura, Gamersgate, Greenmangaming... I was always careful to get a key that was either Steam, Securom, or DRM free, I never relied on individual clients.

Gamersgate and D2D I stopped buying from a while back, but GMG still has good sales often :)
