Crosmando: There's something all of those games have in common on Steam. I'll let you figure it out.
Yeah, they are not in GOG. But that has nothing to do with your claim that Steam users wouldn't buy VGA-era games.

Since those classic games are already on Steam, does that mean they should never come to GOG? After all, then GOG would be just copycatting Steam, releasing games that are already sold elsewhere too.

No, they are their to "pad" bigger bundles of games being sold, ie the Star Wars Collection.
Awesome!
HOPE.

Bought all three Homeworld titles multiple times, still have the CDs from most of those purchases, as well as the lovely technical manual that came with the first release. Will happily buy them yet again on GOG should they make it here, or any other DRM-free site that offers comparable games + goodies. Otherwise, another lost potential sale for whoever re-releases them.
Nice! :)
I gotta admit, I more or less thought there was NO chance. But this, this is making me smile ever so slightly. Now if we could just get Squeenix to bring FF7.
If FF7 ever comes to Gog I'll change my avatar to Walrus.

Apparently there are two layers of DRM on it, Steamworks and special Squeenix login requirement. (I don't have the game so I can't say for sure.) Since we already have Squeenix here, they must really be afraid for a DRM-free version that hasn't had time to take advantage of sure , DRM-ed sales on Steam. I hope GOG is able to convince them/was able to talk to them at E3 or PAX or something, because this game is seriously high up on the wishlist.

Steam page says: "Requires a Square Enix account."

Its also full of bugs.
If the Homeworld games come to GOG that would be absolutely fantastic. I hope the news is true.

How does it compare to the original? Are they equally buggy?

I've not found the '90s release of FF7 PC to be buggy. You'll want to use a fan patch to run it in under modern operating systems however.

Hmmm, well, I'm not sure how the community would react, but maybe GOG could get permission to incorporate the fan patch and sell the original, unenhanced version for 5.99. (I was going to say, "Or maybe original + OST for 9.99", but then I saw the full soundtrack in iTunes was $25, LOL.) Highly unlikely of course, but I enjoy theorizing.
Wouldn't be in the least surprised for Homeworld to turn up here. Maybe not a sequel though. By and large people seem to be confusing Gearbox itself with 2k and Sega, who are clearly big steam fans and published DNF/ BL2/ ACM. Pitchford's own view on the matter, albeit being from a while ago, was a lot more... flexible

"MPC: So you think Valve should spin off Steam?

RP: They should! It would be much better if Steam was its own business. There’s so much conflict of interest there that it’s horrid. It’s actually really, really dangerous for the rest of the industry to allow Valve to win.

I love Valve games, and I do business with the company. But, I’m just saying, Steam isn’t the answer. Steam helps us as customers, but it’s also a money grab, and Valve is exploiting a lot of people in a way that’s not totally fair. Valve is taking a larger share than it should for the service its providing. It’s exploiting a lot of small guys. For us big guys, we’re going to sell the units and it will be fine." Source
