I bought the 'new' soundtrack in order to make a comparison with the old soundtrack I already have. I did a quick skim over them.

They appear to have the same content. The file names are different; the text "Alexei Zakharov - " is added to every file name. Otherwise they appear the same. The old soundtrack has a thumbnail picture file, while the new doesn't.

My advice is if you are in doubt, hold off on the goodies for now.
I'm amazed that Egosoft has been able to plug away at their X games for a quarter of a century already. It certainly seems like they've carved out their very own niche for themselves. Now I just have to play one of them. ;)

*looks at history of Egosoft titles before X* They created Ugh!? Interesting.

Anyway, I do have the Terran War Pack in my library but other then testing that it runs at one point I haven't actually done anything with it. I'm contemplating picking up X: Gold, X2: The Threat, and X3: Reunion. Are the earlier ones actually playble with just a mouse and keyboard? I keep seeing people recommending flight sticks, and I currently don't have one.

Also, does Albion Prelude make Reunion and Terran Conflict redundant or do all three actually contain stories separate from one another? It's a bit confusing trying to read up on those.

EDIT:
Well, I looked at this thread just now and it sounds like X2 should be doable with K&M. Not sure about part 1. Is the story good enough to actual care about or should I just stick with the Terran War pack I have for now?

Shame on you gog for allowing this DRM.

I have asked for this to be formally added to DRM titles sold on gog here:

kohlrak: I wouldn't say it's teh best, but i'd argue it's a space sandbox moreso. To get to the management bits you have to invest ALOT of time into it. It has better space combat than No Man's Sky.

Wait, you mean to tell me i can't even access the content i just spent money on without dealing with DRM? I thought gog promiised to warn us about this.

Reglisse: Ventures can be played offline (without receiving all rewards).
To play offline with rewards (like paints) you can use the Ventures Offline Mod here:
https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=411604
Yes,It would be better to get an official offline mode ...

@Skysect Better to contact GOG Team to ask.
Myself I don't know what to do...
Oh, i thought you meant i had to register to get the boron back. I get why ventures requires this, tbh. I think there's another way it could be done that would be drm-free, but that would require some special setup that no company is going to do. To complain about ventures being DRMed is to not understand how to design such a system. It'd be easier to make direct multiplayer with 2 people work drm-free than ventures: you're basically emailing people your ships.

X is basically privateer/rebel galaxy on steroids. It has the same direct gameplay with so much more content that they had to create a management menu to turn it into a makeshift RTS. Mix in some of the built-in mods that originally came from the community for t hings like auto-managing your own stations, it's like a management sim like roller coster tycoon or something, but you can jump into it in first person like with dungeon keeper. It's clear, though, that this first person mode was the original play idea and it evolved from it.

EDIT: WHile i'm at it, it seems that the time they left the community's recommendations is when they had the most trouble with X. Rebirth was not well received, while previous X games often shined when the community ideas came in through mods. This DLC is an example of the community complaining that they haven't fully brought back the alien races that we knew and loved. In other words, Egosoft came up with a great "world" and the community otherwise significantly improved their game. X could be considered partially a community project.

Egosoft has some issues with their forums though in regards to... issues that are a bannable offense to explain here. It's quite sad, really, because Egosoft staff set themselves up to be self-flagellating and i worry about every X project to come out, because i do think there is a degree of lack of self-awareness here (which X: rebirth demonstrates).

Hmm... I have bought that Kingdom End DLC. Great... But....

The off-line installers are old Release Candidate 3 (RC3) installers. On Steam they are already passed RC4 onto the final Release Version. That means the off-line installers lag 2 versions behind (and have unresolved bugs that are resolved in the final version).

Yeah, yeah - I know that if you use Galaxy you get the full final version and yada, yada... But I a no fan of clients running in the background. That's my reason I buy my games on GOG in the first place. To get off-line client-free installers...

It's really disappointing to see GOG lagging behind so many times. Yeah - I probably get the final version some time in the future, but it sucks to have payed money for a game, and then have to wait while everyone else is playing the final version already.

[Edit]
In the mean time the files are updated, but at download they are still marked as RC4 (Release Candidate 4), so they are probably not the final version. Sure - It's an update, but yeah.. I don't know...

@GOG: No update flags for X4. This is not the only thus affected game by the way.

Reglisse: For Kingdom's End content.
I don't care about a DRM bonus...so,I need to buy the new DLC or not...I'm confused...

Skysect: As I said at upper posts I had old CE version. And that's it. You need to buy everything again. Lol. That's so fun. Now I am feeling like a sucker. Because I pre-ordered crippled version of the game.
Awful. How common are those damn tricks here?

Dear GOG.COM team & EGOSOFT!

First, I want to express my gratitude for finally releasing the Collector's Editions' Bonus Contents in particular the ebooks (PDF) of the newly translated X-novels "Farnham's Legend" and "Nopileos" as a separate product!

separate buyable Bonus Contents for X4

Unfortunately, GOG.COM's integration of these Bonus Contents in the GOG.COM catalog is very restrictive, only purchaseable for previous owners of the base game "X4: Foundations", despite the product card ('game page') of this newly released separate Bonus Content is not mentioning this as theri usual DLC products.
(Compare the attached screenshots with the Kingdom End's OST as an example)

I (and propably many other GOG.COM users) would highly appreciate, if these unnecessary dependencies would/could be lifted from such Bonus Contents like ebooks/PDF or Soundtrack extras!

Kind regards,
foxgog

Skysect: Thanks for that shit. I had old Collector's Edition. And now there is upgrade path on Steam. But not on GOG. You need to buy again.
GOG's handling of bundles is horrible these days. I do hove they change it at some point.
This is why I'm delaying purchases until I'm sure nothing new comes for a game.
