Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war.

March onto the real-time 3D battlefield in the strategic, tabletop-inspired title, <span class="bold">Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat, now available for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Jump into the fantasy tabletop world of Warhammer Fantasy from Games Workshop in Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat and take control of a small army. You will have to manage your forces and weigh your strengths and weaknesses wisely to extend your influence, expand your treasury, and enlist new recruits to see your army grow. Choose your battles carefully, as your moves will affect your in-game future. If you are up to the challenge of a highly difficult and tactically demanding strategy, Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat is for you, but be warned: your patience will be tested with the defeats you are due to face on your way to victory. The game’s combat system got many a word of praise, but do not be fooled - it does not come at the expense of character development, plot, or animation, and the music is astounding. All features of the title come together to truly bring the Warhammer Fantasy tabletop classic to life.

<span class="bold">Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat is DRM-free at GOG.com. If tactically challenging strategies are your thing, make sure to give this one a try.

JudasIscariot: Sorry but we couldn't get a hold of the person who made a really nice manual for the game.
That's unfortunate...but ok, I think I have a scan somewhere on my cds and I see replacementdocs has it too.

Enjoyed Shadow of the Horned Rat back in the day, I specked my first PC for that game.

Dark Omen is the better game though, much better user interface and gameplay. I remember in Shadow hitting the charge button by mistake far too often.

Can't wait to see what's next!
So are these GOG exclusives now? And why only English language?

Seems like GOG.com bought the rights. It maybe they either could only get the worldwide rights for English as language or they could not yet get hold of a localized version (for Fantasy General or Pacific General they couldn't even find the code, although they have the right to it).

So in the next days/weeks they might get more locales here.
Very surprised and pleased by this release of a such goldie. I've spent so many hours on this game which was very brillant (music, atmosphere, ergonomics etc.). I hope Dark Omen will follow soon ^^
One word - unbelievable!! GOG team are real magicians!
I got this one back then for free in a magazine. Nice game, the atmosphere really has this Warhammer feeling, but the battles are difficult and unpredictable. Often it felt like victory or defeat would arrive completely at random... Or maybe it's just me who didn't understand how to play. Still, I finished it and I have good memories of the game.
sniff sniff. A true classic played this on ps1.

One best warhammer games. Now this deserves the title GOG.

Take my money nowwwwwwwwwwwwww.

The game page has "turn-based" under genre. I am not sure this is correct.

This is a truly great surprise. Warhammer & 40K are great settings and the games were almost all top-of-the-line. Bravo, GOG! Wishes are being granted left & right!
