There will be blood. Delicious blood.

Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the timeless RPG masterpiece that has sucked many a gamer's time, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Intoxicating. Macabre. Vital. These are both traits of blood and of Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the RPG that forever changed expectations on how the creatures of the night should be depicted in videogames. Was it the ridiculous replayability? The versatility of our vampiric abilities? The gripping visual and sound design? Perhaps the memorable NPCs and stellar writing. One thing is for certain: much like the daunting Antediluvians, this is a game whose allure only grows stronger with time. No point in resisting it any longer.

Sink your teeth into the definitive bloodsucking experience that is Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, DRM-free on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: Unofficial Patch 9.5 only works with the English version for now anyways. That being said, we'll make sure to get the missing languages out to all but we had to make sure that the game worked as expected before releasing it :)
avatar
shmerl: Does Wesp get compensated by GOG in some way?
You'd be better off asking him, to be honest. Those kind of details are way beyond me.

hyperagathon: Wait, includes how? Is it already patched or does it ship with a patch installer? Having researched and compared the two available patches - wesp5's and the True Patch - all I can say is the former can go die in a fire for all I care, along with any other such patch that modifies a game to be "some asshole off the Internet" version instead of as vanilla as practical.

Do the "technical fixes" include wesp5's "corrections" of the game itself? Will this interfere with installing the True Patch? Basically, did you guys take apart the patch, apply the technical fixes, and cast off the rest as the trash it is, or did you just install the "basic" version of the patch? Because that one still applies the not-so-technical not-fixes.
We offer a patched as well as an unpatched version of the game.

avatar
shmerl: Can full Wesp patch be applied to GOG installation? I.e. one that adds additional level, more weapons and etc.?
You should be able to do so with no problems :)
avatar
KiNgBrAdLeY7: Then go to the directory gog bloodlines was installed and follow this path:

" Vampire\Sound\Music\Licensed "
avatar
shmerl: Yeah, I know. But original is lossless, and game only has mp3 audio.

JudasIscariot: You should be able to do so with no problems :)
avatar
shmerl: What is the command line parameter that's needed to launch the game with unofficial patch? I just saw it somewhere, but can't find it now.

Ah, found it. It's in readme for the patch:

-game Unofficial_Patch
avatar
shmerl:
Yeah I just verified it myself :)

So for anyone else looking to run the game unmodded in Wine just do:

$wine vampire.exe -game Unofficial_Patch

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Are you ready for life-threatening duels against Stop-signs? Are you ready to start intimate conversations with your television set? Are you ready to become a mad prophet???
Voices will keep him safe :P

jorlin: Yes, playing Malkavian is a hoot, but best left for a second playthrough, because their insight can often lead to spoilers.
Yes and no - playing first as a Malk and then as someone with normal dialogue can lead to some cool "OHH, SO THAT'S WHAT IT MEANT" moments. :)

j0ekerr: What? What isn't normal about spider-monkey chocolate balls, twisted nipple crocanti?
But for me, it was Tuesday.
avatar
MysterD: Wow; you're supplying both the unmodded 1.2 and Wesp 9.5 Basic versions of the game?
AWESOME!!! :)
recent unofficial patches (from 9.0+ I believe) support that by default;
avatar
Siegor: Does that include the antitribu clans? Is that in your "regular" install?
No, Bloodlines: Antitribu is a separate mod
avatar
Lemon_Curry: Though I would greatly appreciate it if you could make sure we got the uncensored version/intro instead (info thanks to MBiL_248).
avatar
Grargar: Uncensored intro or glitch? You be the judge:

And apparently the intro decapitation was removed with the official 1.2 patch even in the US version, anyway.
I have the three CD US version laying around here at the house somewhere so I'll check my version with the 1.2 patch and nothing else sometime soon :)

shmerl: snip
Did you mention something about Wine not showing the progress bar in our Windows installers? Because the installation progress bar works fine on my Wine 1.9.8, see the attached picture :)

avatar
shmerl: Yep. Nothing is showing up in the latest Wine that supports CSMT (1.9.5-staging). I'll test it with 1.9.8 and will let you know.

---

Unrelated - I was hit by the known bug (missing fists in the inventory). It basically makes one incapable of unarmed combat. It was supposed to be fixed in the unofficial patch, but apparently it's still happening. You can fix it by posting these commands in the console:

give item_w_unarmed
give item_w_fists
give weapon_physcannon

Is Wesp5 around these forums? I can report it to him.
I played the game stock and I had fists in my inventory. Check the stock version of the game first :)

avatar
shmerl: I just run the installer for Bloodlines using Wine 1.9.8 from PlayOnLinux. Progress bar isn't showing up during installation. In fact it's stuck on the first screen with path selection, but in the end, installation succeeds.
Don't know then. Installer works for me as it always does: progress bar moves to a certain point and and then it finishes :) Nvidia 364.19 drivers and all :)

Try a non-PoL version perhaps? :)
avatar
shmerl: Yeah, there must be some difference if it works for you. Did you manage to squeeze anything from anisotropic filtering by the way?
I haven't even messed with anything like that. The only thing I had to do was give the game a virtual desktop of 1920 x 1200 so that the game would see that resolution as when I first started the game 1920 x 1200 was not available to choose from in the video options menu.

Anything else with fancy terminology such as "anisotropic filtering" i didn't even touch. The game looks just as good as I remember it.

Also, I really wish there were tooltips for fancy effects in games. I really don't care to have to whip out the Rosetta Stone for each and every option in order to figure out what it actually does. Seriously, just put in "this bit makes the jaggies go away" or "this bit makes objects look better".

avatar
shmerl: It's not really that cryptic :)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anisotropic_filtering
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/78546-antialiasing-and-anisotropic-filtering-explained

Basically, it makes distant objects at steep viewing angles look sharper.

See an example from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anisotropic_filtering#/media/File:Anisotropic_filtering_en.png

The game itself doesn't support this feature, but Nvidia provides an override which helped image quality in Bloodlines run in Wine in the past. For example stand on any long street in the game, and note how road dividing line becomes very blurry and washed out in the distance. Anisotropic filtering made it sharp in the whole visible range. But now it just doesn't work for me anymore.

shmerl: May be some games can give a brief overview of the fancy graphical terms for educational purposes, but I guess developers assume people who care can do some searching :)
Having to go OUT of the game to look something up is, well, annoying, Tooltips on mouseover were invented for a reason :P

Does the Nvidia override work in non-PoL Wine?
