Deep down and dirty.

UnderRail an underground turn-based survival RPG, is now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

You shift from leg to leg inside a tattered blanket-coat, struggling to shield yourself from the damp, cold air of the tunnels. The distant ruckus of looters, maliciously picking apart a homeless man's shelter, whispers words of hesitation into your ear. But that girl needed her medicine and, dammit, even if our entire race is nearly extinct, what we stand for must endure. You clench that makeshift shotgun in your radio-blistered hand and march straight ahead.

Do you miss the complex role-playing mechanics and challenging combat of the original Fallouts? UnderRail's got you covered… under tons upon tons of concrete, where life is still somewhat tolerable. Brave the horrors of an unforgiving world and venture through the underground complex of metro stations that the survivors now call home. Craft your own equipment, master turn-based combat and navigate the politics of opposing factions vying for power over those last remaining scraps of civilization.

Do whatever's necessary to survive and explore every dark corner of the UnderRail, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Grab your ticket with the 10% launch discount that will last until January 1st, 1:59 PM GMT.
Almost instabought. Then I saw MP3 soundtrack. What where is the FLAC, come on developers release the lossless.

Wish listed for now due to my own hang-ups when I see the word MP3 and my value of something goes down. It could be irrational as I haven't heard the soundtrack. Just that when I buy something, I want the best.

Martek: * Save game style: Checkpoints vs save anywhere / multiple saves allowed vs only certain number of "most recent", etc.
far as I remember (from an earlier alpha build) it was manual save / quicksave only - dont recall any autosaves at all - and actually lost a few hours progress as a result. Might be wrong though. if Crsldmc turns up, he'll know for sure!
Is there a way to contact the dev here? I've emailed them via their website but have yet to receive a reply and am getting a bit worried they are ignoring the issue of those of us who already paid for this game prior to release.

I (and others like me) purchased Underrail from them DRM-free (on Desura) last year, and only supported the game because there was DRM-free option. Now that the dev no longer updates the Desura build, I am very much hoping that they give those of us who bought the game already a GOG key, since we paid for a DRM-free game!

A "Steam key" does not cut it, as I would have never bought the game had it only been ever getting a Steam release!

I understand the dev may have had trouble with Desura, but that's not us customers' problem or fault, and I would really like to be able to play the final game (without Steam!) that I pad for and supported during its development.
wishlisted!!!

CharlesGrey: Just a quick question: Is it true that this has been out on Steam for a while? I'm mostly asking because this type of game seems likely to have a multitude of bugs ( broken quests and skills etc. ), especially if it's a brand new release. But if it's been out for a while, then any major problems have probably been fixed by now... ?
It wen't through Steams "Early Access" program. If you're not familiar, that's where early alpha/beta versions of a game are put up for sale, the money from those sales is (in theory) put into helping complete the game, and the community often gives feedback that can help shape the game either in the form of fixing bugs or changing balance issues. That's not a guarantee that the game won't have many bugs in it, but I think it's a pretty good bet.
So it goes without saying but this is still in need of "completion" - http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/underrail

EDIT: Maybe I'm unnecessarily critical below.

Weird how the GOG staff seem to be ignoring the wishlist at times; don't they want the "1 million votes completed" to reach higher?

Nice to see I wasn't the only one whose E-mails were ignored. ;)

DProject: Okay, fair enough. Stupid question: What is .NET and why is it bad?
.NET is a programming API under Windows; IE - A set of programming libraries to make applications with. Technically it's more, but I'll spare you the technical details of .NET as a bytecode platform target.

Basically, it means its not easy to port the code to platforms other than Windows.

if you don't care about other platforms, then it's not that bad (though it does run a few services to speed the loading of .NET programs, which are arguably unnecessary.)

Yes but did you buy it full price during alpha/beta on desura or did you get it via the Groupees bundle a longtime back?
Bought this because it's a new RPG my PC can actually run, and it seems like Fallout. I was pretty disappointed by Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity, but maybe 3rd time is the charm this year.

You make one little joke about the fact that the GOG installers get uploaded to torrent sites and immediately you get downvoted.
People are constantly proudly proclaiming that they pirate Steam games.

Martek: snip
I asked for practical experience with the supposed XP support.
I don't trust this discription anymore since I endlessly tried to no avail to play "Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms" which officially has XP support too but crashes in it after a few seconds of gameplay.
Granted, 2D games are usually less of a problem.

Hm, does this game support dual core CPUs or is this single core only?
on wishlist... will hold off until after the Holidays but looks like great fun!

it seems indeed like fallout... seems is the magic word, its no fallout by a longshot
the movent: you have to draw a line and then the line shows from green tot red, seems this is the way to move around in turnbased or realtime styyle in nowadays games, personally i think this is not a good way, just use the old fallout style, walk realtime and when critters or danger is close by, switch to combat turnbased mode, i like that kind of combat better then drawing silly lines, and its more realistic to reallife cause we dont draw a line in order to walk, we walk and if and when we sens something is happening we wait and look around, we never use lines to draw and move.

You see, in fallout classics you walk realtime and when there was a danger of the also real time walking enemies or critters it went to turnbased combat, i dont see this in underrail, but thats because fallout classic didnt have so many lightefects, i was able to finsihed the fallout 1 and 2 with no problems regarding unwanted aureal and visual effects,
underrail seems to be full of these, in the alpha i havent noticed that many, but then again usually the devs ad too much light effects in final versions, which is cool, but not so good for people with certain small sensitivities.

These green/blue light effects makes it look like there is a form of light over the dungeons, a glowing light, on and off is irritating to my eyes,
this is a no no for my photosensitivty, i asked on steam if there could be some way to shut it off in menu or in config file like lords of xulima had, but no reply on steam.

So far devs on steam did not answerd my questions.... soo much for these devs....
Xulima devs and more devs answered right away, so i think this underrail game will be gathereing dust on my pc
too bad cause it looked so promising in the alpha demo.

Until theres a way to shut off those lighteffects whic are cool, but the game itself would not suffer it these could be turned of for certain people
i hope they provide a way to turn of effects , like the xulima developers did for the full screen lightning (thats the part at which you arrive at the princes home) so thats fixed for xulima (thanks again xulima devs for the nice solution that made it possible for me and a few more that have photosensitivity to turn it off and be able to play the game)

Now i can only hope (but i somehow have my doubts, cause afteral theres apparently only a very small group that have photosensitviy) that the underrail team will add such options aswell, thats kinda sad, cause people who like a game wont be able to play it.

maybe they are busy with other things, i think the gog staff is doing a great job with all this so we cant blame them
they are doing well.

The game devs , these fellows should be more alert, cause there are loads of them, and none of them work the same, a lot of them dont or wont reply emails or simply dont care, while other devs do there outmost best to be on top of everything and will always respond asap, i see the differnce on steam: some devs are kinda 'lazy' while some devs seem to be on it 24/7....

I noticed a alwar dev at steam who does his best to help as much as possible on steam, while others arent taking the job that serious.

true.... bad people who pirate games will always exist unfortunately but...
there is no honour in upping a drm free game or tool :D . or challenge

its the challenge to break that nasty drm like steam is and has :D
thats where they earn there 'stripes' .....
not in upping drm free stuff theres no glory in it.
