50% off the game and its sounds.

Transistor, the Jazz-infused, cyberpunk action-RPG from the creators of Bastion, is available DRM-free for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount!

Transistor is the second game from the guys and gals behind Bastion and it shows. The visuals are beautifully hand drawn with an anime influence, while the worlds glow, shine, and transform mercilessly. A Jazz-infused soundtrack accompanies you on your adventure, becomes your guide, and an inseparable part of the game. The experience, much like Bastion, becomes an instant classic.
Transistor is an action-RPG that doesn't insult your intelligence. The story of a charming Jazz singer robbed of her voice acknowledges the subtle shades of grey in a good story. The game features a mix of real time combat and turn-based planning, for a satisfying, tactical, and thoughtful challenge. Experiment with a plethora of skills, upgrades and "functions" to design your preferred fighting configuration, or a dozen of them.

If you enjoy the hours worth of gritty, but beautiful Original Soundtrack, you can take it with you, also with a 50% discount!

You won't be able to get enough of Transistor, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last for 5 days, until Tuesday, April 28, 9:59AM GMT.

HypersomniacLive: The problem is not that the soundtrack is not included in the game release. The issue is that one can't purchase it without first purchasing the game.
Yup. :-P

deonast: Ah but it is only certain artists not a site wide thing. Most artists I have in my lists don't do this. I have had two that did but I had either already bought all their stuff in one example or missed the email until after it expired (Austin Wintory).

So yes you are right some artists might do it. But proportionately not that many and certainly not as a site wide sort of promo that you get on GOG.

[...].

HypersomniacLive: Numbers may not be comparable, but I was only addressing the "never" you stated.
And even on GOG it's up to the devs/pubs to participate in sales and promos, and not all do at every sale - when was the last time Arx Fatalis was on sale?

Anyway, fact remains that one cannot purchase standalone soundtracks on GOG unless they first purchase the related game, and all the wording and reasoning used to justify this prohibition makes no sense.

nstgc: Why, GOG, couldn't you have released this before/at the same time as Steam!? I own it there instead... :(
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Perhaps because it was not up to them.
Fair enough, learnt my lesson, "never say never" or never say never again :)

babark: To be clear now, GOG sells (separately), games, movies and music?

I'm not complaining (at this very moment about this very thing right now :D), just be interesting to clarify.
No, only games and movies are sold separately. The two soundtracks currently available require the base game before you can purchase/redeem them. It's not clear whether this is a technical limitation, or is intended.

Niggles: . Look at all the negative feedback and so so appeal (lack of) to many of the forum users here when it comes to the movies - indie movies at that.
avatar
Starmaker: What makes you think indie music would've fared better? What matters to the detractors is that a movie (or music, or a comic, or whatever) is not a sufficiently old game.
You have been on the forums as much as i have - you have seen the number of ppl who want music on GOG...there seems to be more of a demand for music over movies... (the general impression ive had over a long period on here).
I hate to talk about the actual game here :P, but my bandwidth just reset and I can actually get this now, but the description does seem a little intimidation. They keep comparing this to Bastion but that was really just movement, a sword, and a special move, this thing seems a little overwhelming.

Is there anyone who isn't overly concerned about the soundtrack that can confirm or deny this? :D

Having not played it (but owning it of course) I can only point you to the totalbiscuit review if you have a spare 40 minutes.
I suggest while eating dinner that tends to be more time effective for me

The upgrade system still confuses me a bit. I'm comparatively certain about battle mechanics though. Essentially, you can plan your moves (a really easy to understand planning system), execute them in seconds, then dodge the counterattacks of the enemy in real time until you can go into planning mode again. That's essentially it. Works well for me until now, but it DEFINITELY asks more of you than Bastion does. Could get quite, quite hairy later on. ;)

Thanks. :D I have such a back log, I'll get this eventually, but I think what I've read here means I'll be putting it off for at least a little while. Thanks again. :D
The music and art are outstanding, but after watching the actual gameplay on twitch I'll have to pass as its not my cuppa tea. I wish they would do the same in a more adventure type point and click genre in the future
