Who watches the watchman?

This is the Police, a gritty strategy/adventure game about bending and upholding the law as head of the city's finest, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 10% launch discount.

Jack Boyd isn't looking for much. Just a fat retirement check, some quality time at his favourite gentlemen's club, and perhaps a bit of goddamn order in this goddamn city. All around him, Freeburg is going straight to hell and as the Chief of Police he will not stand for it.
Deal with the criminals in any way you see fit, manage your police officers in an efficient manner, fight the forces of corruption and organized crime, and crack the toughest cases by collecting evidence or bribing the right people. Each decision you make has its own price and when all's said and done, you will walk away from this cesspit with $500.000 worth of savings. Or as a man broken beyond recognition. It all depends on how well you'll play your cards during your remaining 180 days on the force.

Play both sides of the good cop-bad cop routine and knock on some troublemakers' doors shouting This is the Police, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 10% discount will last until August 9, 3:59 PM UTC.

styggron: Hello everyone,
To anyone that has this already / played it etc I have a question

1. Can I play this character honestly ? ie doing things with integrity ? ie the "good side"

It's obvious you can play bad side and probably a mixture but I want to know if I can play purely on the good side. One of the reviews I saw implies it.

The only reason I ask is that the goal is to get $500,000 and this instantly made me thing "how can I get this by playing it morally" maybe you win the lottery in game or some other bonus I don't know.

Hence my question

Thanks everyone.
Yes, you can handle the character with integrity. For example, you can hire and fire people. Firing people can be done in two different ways: legal and "illegal". Legal firing involves things like a given officer failing a call several times, drinking, etc. Illegal firing doesn't really mention any details (or at least I didn't delve into it yet) but I presume it involves letting someone go under a false pretext.

I think, in the end, you may have to delve into the shadier side of things but I think that's how the game tries to show that nothing in real life is black and white :)

vulchor: Let me know when you figure it out. I'm also waiting for mine. Funny, I don't even remember a survey asking if I wanted a Steam or GOG key, even though I'm pretty sure they said on the kickstarter they were going to try to bring it to GOG. I know they said they'd have it DRM free.

P1na: I sent them a message through KS, hopefully it won't be another Chaos reborn because that one was horrible.

Edit: They got back at me, seems like they don't have GOG keys for backers at the moment. Which is pretty damn annoying, but I can wait; just I hope we do eventually get them. They sent me a steam key instead, because of course they did. It said something about beta testing though.
We've sent the backer keys out already :)
