You’re not ready for this news – the newest title from 11 bit studios, The Thaumaturge, is now out on GOG!

The Thaumaturge is an isometric, story-rich RPG with a unique approach to tactical combat, character development features, and investigation mechanics. Set at the mere beginning of 20th century, in Warsaw under the yoke of imperial Russian tsardom, you’ll face morally ambiguous choices; all while discovering a whole darker side of the universe, mysterious powers and strange ethereal beings called Salutors.

Despite the circumstances Warsaw is forced to live in, it’s a buzzing metropolis – you’ll meet a variety of inhabitants, ancestries, views and beliefs of conflicting interests, Russian Soldiers, Jewish Merchants, Polish townspeople, and many, many more. While experiencing the city life, you’ll get to attend breathtaking parties with the high society, only to later get robbed in a dark alley of the Praga district. You’ll see great hopes, dreams, dark desires; but above all, you won’t be able to ignore the Thaumaturges, individuals versed in taming Salutors; used for manipulation and combat.

Prepare to shape your story through alternate choices and their consequences, develop your character, defeat your foes in a unique combat experience of both human attacks and psychic strikes from Salutors; influence and manipulate, and tame the power of those ethereal beasts. But that’s not all – let yourself be fully immersed in the world that’s inevitably gone, with historically accurate environment, figures, and the charm of crime and luxury going side by side.

You can now also get the Original Soundtrack, as well as in a Digital Deluxe Edition – so don’t wait, dive into the grim streets of Warsaw!
I was considering wishlisting it but the extremely limited showing of gameplay in the "gameplay trailer" worries me.
Game with the most cringeworth/ corny dialogues so far this year, at least according to the trailer.
I can't tell if that's the offbeat humor of the devs or If they really mean it.

"I professionally touch things"

Anyway, good laughs! Kinda dig it. :D

I am almost certain it should be off beat and current, no person in 19./early 20th century would say "what the fuck" :)
Great release! ^_^

historical (in)accuarcy aside

this 'clashing humor' seems to be on the uptick now. Recently played a demo of "Indika", horror adventure where you suddenly get a 8 bit Mario soundtrack and collect coinswith 'acts of faith', where the game has 'realistic' style. Kinda hilerious but also refreshing.

schmoemi: In the System requirements the requirements for the CPU list GPU models, not CPU models. Maybe you should recheck your data, @GOG!??
I thought that I was the only one who found a mistake in the game system requirements (CPU section), but no, you also found out that GOG mistake, and it is not fixed yet. Such a strange approach to the release of the game that has such interesting design and game mechanics. Gamers who do know not much about PCs (CPU, GPU, etc.) will be confused when they will see such system requirements.

Mistakes happen. (We're all just humans, aren't we?) The world doesn't mind that much, unless... well... unless you're willing to fix them. -_-

Thank you very much for the release!
One of the reviews says the game is "similar to Disco Elysium". Can someone who has played the game confirm or deny this?
Interesting setting and atmosphere (and I can live with "corny dialogue" in translation) but...

... after watching the trailer...

... I'm still not certain what's going on? What's the story?

All I get is he's a Thaumaturge who banishes spirits... or uses spirits?... and he's not trusted or liked by some people?

They really need a better trailer that sets up the characters, the conflict, and what's ultimately at stake; I feel like I'd be excited for this game if there was only a better trailer.

If it was properly explained as typically defined, a thaumterge would be what applied physics is to science; they are to magic. Sort of twirling the skirt of the idea of two of Clarke's laws:
2) The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
3) Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

In essence, they want to turn magic into technology or into a studied science.

This alleged thaumterge is more of a necromancer or spiritualist, it sounds.

One of the developers said that The Thaumaturge is like Disco Elysium meets Persona in 20th Century Poland, and other sources picked it up and used it. The game may have been inspired by this and other games, and they may have adopted certain elements from them, but it's nowhere close to the experience Disco Elysium had to offer.

Comparing it to DE and other critically acclaimed games is more about self-elevation and marketing strategy than anything else. TT is its own thing and doesn't need to rely on comparisons to DE as a selling point, which only obscures its true nature, unique qualities, and what it has to offer players that's different to others.

Sovereign Syndicate has so far been the only game coming closest to Disco Elysium to make it a fair comparison.

modkon: I'd buy this in a heartbeat if I'd know for sure that my PC could run it... Anyone here who just meets the minimum system specs and is currently playing it?
My system falls somewhere in between the minimum and recommended specs [see below].

ASUS Prime Z390-A Gaming
Straight Power 11 ATX 750W
Intel Core i7-9700KF 12MB Cache @4.9 GHz
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16) DDR4 3200 MHz
MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GAMING Z Trio 8G (no OC)
NVME - Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB PCIe 4.0
SSD - Samsung 860 EVO 2 TB
SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 1TB

OS: Windows 11 Pro (For casual and gaming use)
OS: Slackware 14.2 (For everything else)

Performance is very good out of the box, and because it was made with UE, I tweaked the .ini files to improve it even further.

GameUserSettings.ini
engine.ini

If you are going to use the files, copy them into the following directory: %localappdata%/TheThaumaturge/Saved/Config/Windows

So far, I can't complain as there have been no errors, quick loading times, and no noticeable bugs or crashes.

Your gaming rig seems to actually meet the recommended specs as far as I can tell. But still, thank you very much for taking the time to reply, and for the ini-files and the info, as well. I'm going to research a bit more if I can find out how well (or badly) the game runs for folk with minimum system requirements. Once I'm confident enough it could work for me, I might use the files you provided. Thanks again and happy gaming! :)
