ReynardFox: Ok GOG, ok, you're doing good here, you're not off my shitlist yet, I still don't know what you are thinking getting in bed with Epic and you better not pull any Galaxy exclusive non-multiplayer shenanigans, but this eases the tension a bit.
avatar
fronzelneekburm: Isn't Alpha Protocol published by SEGA? Not that I would have anything against SEGA joining the gog family, but I assume SEGA have something against joining the gog family (despite some 50% of their games - including Alpha Protocol!) being DRM-free on Steam anyway).
avatar
ReynardFox: I doubt Sega management is smart enough to even know what GOG in the first place, let alone know enough about it to take issue.

I wish they'd prove me wrong, Sega is sitting on some of my most wanted (including my no.1 most wanted) if-it-was-drm-free games.
We got Konami games this year... so nothing's impossible anymore.

That being said, SEGA is much more entrenched into PC< with Total War being such a juggernaut and tightly tied to Steam, so it could be an issue of familiarity and convenience for them.

True enough, but with Konami I could see it as a confused, desperate flailing, trying anything they can think of to make a few dollars and claw back some good will.

Konami is still relatively new to collossal business cockups, Sega on the other hand are just pants-on-head mental and are surprisingly (and consistently) good at sabotaging their own potential successes and have done so for decades. I would love for noone more to get on board than Sega, but I just don't see it happening unless GOG actively go after them, and even then with how blinkered they are about Steam, I see it as unlikely.

They should've hired more people with future hindsight (20/20).
Talk about bad timing. If Cyberpunk wasn't coming out in a couple of weeks I'd have grabbed it, but I don't want to get this right now and not be in a FPS kind of mood when CP comes out. Well maybe next time it goes on sale after I finish CP. Generally speaking I tend to get sick of FPS games faster than other kinds of games and CP2077 is already preordered and paid for so this is on the wishlist for now.

Mean.Jim: Cool, but I'll wait for the rest of the DLC and pick up the complete edition.
Yeah, I had this in my cart before seeing the season pass... I may wait 'til the second DLC is out so I can also get the "complete edition as well!
Nice. But where's the soundtrack? And the bundle option with a smaller discount with the Season Pass and soundtrack too?

This probably won't make me any friends, but I think the price is ridiculous. Let's face it, by all accounts the game is not that long, the graphics are "ok" at best, it's a year old and the base price is higher than Cyberpunk? Top kek.

Do you agree with the following statement:
- An FPS (=shooter) is mostly about shooting.
If you do -> conclusion: Cyberpunk (or The Outer Worlds) is not an FPS, and neither are all other FPP games wherein the shooting is not the major* gameplay element.
* how much of the gameplay should be about shooting to consider it a shooter - I don't know - I'd go with +75%.

I know, the game isn't out yet - but from everything I know about that game, it looks like it'll be an immersive sim (like Deus Ex e.g.), not an FPS.
Nice to see this here--day one post-exclusivity if I'm not mistaken. Thus far, it seems that my theory that the Valve-Epic war would ultimately be good news for DRM free gaming is holding up.

Not sure if I'll get it based on all that I've read...but I did thoroughly enjoy NMS, FO:NV and Borderlands and Outer Worlds is supposedly a mashup of the three, so I'll at least give it some consideration.

Game A is discounted once a year. Game B 10 times a year. What does this say about base prices? These days, the discounted price IS the base price, and the full price is there to take advantage of people that can't wait (until the next sale).
high rated
Nice release, I'll wait for the dust to settle though, namely:

- No Soundtrack (Available on Steam)
- The Outer Worlds: Non-Mandatory Corporate-Sponsored Bundle is missing from GOG.
- No Bundle Discount like on Steam.

Once this stuff is sorted, then I'll buy the game and not any sooner.

And... are you looking to make friends? :P I think we each have our tolerable price limits and that's perfectly normal.

That being said, even with a 50% discount, I echo your sentiment that it's maybe a bit too much for what's on the table. At the current 50% with the season pass included or 75% for the base game I would have picked it up now, but as things stand, I'll wait for the next sale.

At least it's the same price as on the EGS and we're not getting a "DRM-free tax", which has occasionally happened.

You can snark on my after-the-fact critical view of Sega all you want... but it wouldn't have required futuresight to prevent a large number of Sega's most disastrous blunders, just basic management competence and internal communication.

The sheer volume of completely illogical, counter-productive things the company has done is huge, and they almost never seem to learn.

Agreed. Its a great game I loved it but its short. If the SP was included with the discount then even at 50% I'd be going through checkout now.

But seeing as I own it already on PS4 and Windows 10 (only the base game) I will await a better price to re-buy it again.

Still, (IMO) Sega isn't Commodore. Sure, some decisions might be considered bad management, while others were interesting risks that didn't turn out well. Even the best management isn't invulnerable to the whims of the market.
You've heard of those inventors that were ahead of their time, haven't you? Well, often you haven't - for exactly that reason.
