PaterAlf: How could it not work? It's just the soundtrack, the artbook and some other downloadable stuff. There's no in-game content.
There is one in-game content, that color changing thing.

sithocan: Almanac upgrade edition is available on Humble. But I am not sure if it Works with basic edition from GOG.
By the way, what bitrate is the mp3 soundtrack? 128kbps or higher?
avatar
Grargar: Since the upgrade is a Steam key, I don't think you can redeem it without owning the base game on Steam.
Sorry, I have assumed there are both steam and DRM-free versions as in some other titles.

deonast: I'm not sure I agree with the logic. Does that mean that other game genre games at that price are ok?

PaterAlf: Adventure games have more or less no replaybility. Once you've completed it, it is over. In other genres (e.g. Strategy, RPGs, Management) you can play over and over again and get a new experience each time you do. So yes, in another genre a higher price point may be acceptable while for adventure games it is not.
Since Adventure games are not the highest selling market you don't get the same sort of scale pricing (you can't guarantee shipping as many units as other genres). Now if you can't get customers to pay more and you can't ship more then I can see larger developer efforts in the adventure game area fading away again like the whole genre did for a while.

To me looks like the writing is on the wall, in a few years we will only see small indie teams doing Adventure games who have less overheads. Sad really. I guess I'd not noticed the problem before. I either kickstarter type back for higher money or grab a game on special.

By that logic, in the future we only have episodic crappy made adventures.
Believe it or not, the amount of work put into a adventure of the class we have here is equal to a strategy game. King Art itself can tell you because they made Battle World Kronos.

AlienMind: disi:
Difference is listed here: http://www.gog.com/news/release_the_book_of_unwritten_tales_2
I think GOG assumes that everybody knows to remove the version he or she will not want (normal or almanac) when picking the pack. I think GOG is missing some "radio-button functionality" (= exclusive picks) in their pack-selector.

disi: Some releases had a SWAG addon to make the normal a 'digital deluxe' edition. This could be misinterpreted, so both versions actual include the full game and the second is a 'digital collectors' edition.

GOG fixed the series buy, cheers ;)

p.s. no avatars
They fixed it? How come it is listing both versions for me then?

I am interested in this, but I'll be waiting for the developers/publisher to fix a few things first. I really liked thed previous two games in the series, but not enough to overlook the following issues with this release:

- No manual (or any bonus whatsoever) with the standard edition. Wtf?
- Exclusive in-game content "Color Your Critter" only for the Almanac edition (some idiotic coloring game). A terrible marketing practice that I don't support.
- ..And the current price is steep for me.

I'll probably wait this one out, until they merge the two versions (if they do so) or make the standard edition identical to the Alamanc as far as in-game content is concerned, offer at least a manual.

Man, this sequel is expensive :S
I'm seriously considering to buy the almanac edition, but, the game is expensive (worth it or not is another matter), i would prefer the soundtrack would be flac since there is a physical cd in the physical almanac edition which is superior to mp3. Even CD flac would be fine.
