An action-adventure of great depth.

The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human, the side-scrolling acount of humanity's downfall, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with a 15% launch discount.

It was always going to end in tears. A vast, unending ocean of tears. As you return from your desperate space mission that was humanity's last hope for survival, you find our world in submerged ruins. Terrible creatures have reclaimed the oceans, our species' last retreat, and are now the unwitting curators of this eerie underwater "museum", which chronicles man's inescapable journey to destruction.

Acting as a brave historian you must try to figure out what brought about the apocalypse, while navigating the nasty surprises lurking among the ruins. Information is scarce, but the beautiful pixel-art environments are rife with clues on humanity's brief passing from the surface (and subsurface) of the planet. Be observant and thorough in your exploration, but never let your guard down for here there be sea monsters.

Dive into humanity's past and breathe in The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% discount will last until January 26, 08:59 AM GMT.

astrugar710: One of my favorite games that I played last year was Environmental Space Station Alpha. You may like it too. Watch the trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GnMvsTU--E and see what you think (I believe that the game is much better than the trailer but at least you get an idea) . The game plays more like a new 2D Metroid. It is available on Humble Bundle DRM free on sale for $5.59 US (regular price $7.99).

BrokenBull: Environmental Station Alpha looks great! Really reminds me of Metroid. I watched some people play it on YouTube and I think I will get it. Thanks for the suggestion.
No problem at all. The game is really big too. Lots of places to explore. I was really impressed that it had so much content for $7.99. The developer added another area to the game after I finished it so I just started the game again recently to see the new content. Also, once you finish the game, there is a lot more to the game that you can do. I never did the extra stuff when I finished it. Maybe I will try that this time around. I played the game on normal difficulty and even tho I died a lot I found the game to be just hard enough but not frustrating. The extra stuff seemed pretty difficult though.
I was hoping that the game would come to GOG but it's too bad that it never came here.

BrokenBull: The 2D Metroid and Castlevania(from Symphony of the Night) created a platforming style that made the player be able to access certain areas that were not accessible before by certain abilities. This made the player back track to the previous levels when they have acquired the ability in the following areas. This replaces the traditional "get key to open door style" and adds gameplay depth. I think this style of game creates a mystery or curiosity within the player when they come across an area that they can't enter yet and also encourages exploring, at least that is how I feel when I play a MetroidVania style game.
I ssee. Thank you for clearing that up.
Well the reviews aren't a lot of help... Off to youtube .

johnnygoging: I wonder if somebody released a game with low-poly models with fine detail and perspective created through old-school forced-perspective texturing methods would that resonate with people from the end of the 90s.
Probably. Most people like the games they grew up with. From what you've said, I'm guessing you're younger than the other groups mentioned, but don't worry -- someday you'll be an anthropology case too!

That's where I always go for opinions or reviews.

IAmSinistar: I remember a while back when "glowing vectors" were the hot new-old thing. Everything has its season.

NotJabba: Some of us got into gaming when every game was pixel art. It's not a phase, it's just what we like.
I started with the Comodore 64 game, Jumpman and Jumpman jr. by Epyx software. The pixel graphics at the time were done well. It was so fun and challenging to play.

A really big game for that price? That sounds great. I watched the game on YouTube while the developer was commenting on it. After the video I went to Humble Store and bought it. I wish GOG would get more games like this.

Sweet, just got my GOG key for this game as a KS backer. If you backed as well, it's worth asking the devs for one if you don't get one automatically.

The new update seems to have sped up the game considerably, and it's a bad thing.
Also, the volume is screwed up. Some effects (bubbles) are loud, others (music, boss sounds) are barely audible. There are no volume controls for either other than an on/off switch.
Waiting for more patches. I'm just about done buying games on release.

I didn't have those problems, but the screen flickers on the title screen. Maybe it is the water effect, but it is annoying when the text is flickering. It is the first time I bought a game on release and I think I should have waited until the all the patches were released.
