Cutting through the galaxy.

Sword of the Stars: Complete Collection, the comprehensive package of turn-based 4X gameplay, real-time space battles, and intergalactic exploration, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

If you happen to find yourself in a space fight, bringing a sword is hardly going to do you any good. How about a fleet of sword-shaped spaceships, though? Yeah, those might actually provide you with the firepower needed to conquer the treacherous far reaches of the galaxy and establish your own interstellar empire.

Sword of the Stars: Complete Collection is all about carefully building an armada that feels unique, unleashing it upon the unsuspecting galaxy through the magic of faster-than-light travel, and blowing your opponents to smithereens in real-time space combat. Since the inclusion of the three DLCs, there are six playable alien factions in total, each with their own preferred technologies and ships, as well as distinct physiology. Player-designed ships and a huge variety of scenarios promise to keep you engaged for dozens of hours, as you hop between star systems, trading, raiding, colonizing, and laser-blasting your way to intergalactic domination.

Build a spacefaring empire and cut the galaxy any way you like with your Sword of the Stars: Complete Collection, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT.

IronArcturus: Does it have a singleplayer Skirmish mode? How many maps are available?
avatar
Jacob_1994: Yes and there are randomly generated maps that can contain 12 stars to 800 stars
Sounds good! Thanks for the info!
Another game i already own on Steam. I wish there was a way to migrate Steam games to GoG as they get supported.
"Initiating research project".
Something about that voice made me laugh the first couple of times i heard it. Tempting price to add the game to my library. A decision for the weekend.
This and MoO1 are the best 4xs out there in my opinion. I'd choose SotS over MoO2 any day. My dream is that the MoO reboot manages to surpass SotS, but we'll see.

Jacob_1994: Only for multiplayer

Maxvorstadt: I now read a test of this game. There are no buildings in this game. Seriously, a 4X game without building buildings? Nah man, I`ll stay with GalCiv II.
SotS and GalCiv II are essentials. You need both.

They both really stand the test of time.
I'm confused by the notion of owning a Sword of the Stars game which isn't comprised of half a dozen pieces scattered across my game shelf.

EDIT: And bought. You can start releasing DLC for it now.

Do you know why Omerta has this weird title in the catalogue: "Omerta: City of Gangsters (4 DLCs included)"?

At some point it was called "Omerta: City of Gangsters (all DLCs included)", then "Omerta: The Japanese Incentive" was released, so they changed the title.

Probably not the case for this game, but you never know.

Anyhow, IAmSinistar was joking...

I'd say it's a cynical poke at the marketing strategy used for SotS The Pit (speaking of which, it wouldn't kill them to put all those bits into a "complete collection" - it's been enough time).

Anyway, I'm really pleased to see SotS here. It's a guaranteed buy for me.
Is there a way to adjust the resolution for the SotS windowed mode? The only resolution that's listed is 1024x768.

Yeah, I had a feeling he was joking but wasn't quite sure :)

There's also Paradox's not-weirdly-but-flatout-wrongly named Europa Universalis III Complete Collection which, er... isn't complete. You need to buy the Europa Universalis III Collection Upgrade to get all the expansions. ^_^

Well the EUIII is not entirely wrong. It's just the version which was sold as Europa Universalis III Complete until they made another content DLC...Still don't understand though why they chose to release that combination instead of the Chronicles version....

Change the resolution in the config.cfg. Worked for me. I now have a 16x9 windowed mode.

Edit: typo

mrkgnao: How many campaigns are there?
How long are they?
Are they story-driven?
None, IIRC.

There are some scenarios you can setup but no real campaign or story to those scenarios (except some starting flavour in description and wincon).

I know this game has fairly big support but I am not fan of it. The empire building is not to my liking. One does only build military vessels (or orbital platforms), picks from military research tree and moves few sliders to manage spendings.
Combat I find not good enough either. I feel like player doesn't have too much control over it, the UI is quite clunky IMO and I disliked the timer. Even on the longest one the combat was not over and the fight ended in draw and I had to attack again next turn.
Also, and it could be bad luck, but I never had enjoyable close combat. Every time I either steamrolled the opponent or got wiped out by big margain and neither of it was much fun.

Cheers. I'll pass.
